Yes, it's doable, but will take some work. You'll need a lot of parts (tranny, new center console top piece, clutch slave cylinder, new brake/clutch pedals, shift linkage, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate)

There's probably more, and it's probably more trouble and money that it's worth. If you were able to get all the parts cheap off a wrecked RA, it'd probably run around $3k-$4k + labor.

When I bought my wifes 98 VW cabrio we first looked at an auto. and when we were checking out the potential problems with the car we heared that the AT on this car was knowen to go out. I called a Tranny specialist who confirmed this and he told me that he has done the AT-MT swap on the VW's a few times and it would cost about $3000. We ended up just finding another car with a stick in the end so that we wouldn't have to worry about it. But yes its possable but it doesn't make much sence financialy. I would rather spend $3K on Hp.

I'm believe it was in the $3k range. It was a couple years ago so I could be wronge. I never did it because I found another car that was a manual and I bought it.

no matter what kind of "deal" you got, unless it's like 6000-10000 off the car, it's always better to get a manual from the factory

also now you have basically void your entire warranty by swapping out the tranny
