I'm in the process of porting & polishing my Ralliart intake manifold. I was able to widen the ports about 3mm on each side, open up injector shrouds and polish the runner about 3-4" into the inside of the manifold. I've also decided to improve the airflow thru my TB and put it all back together with phenolic gaskets.

Hope to gain a couple more horseys after I'm done !! Think I'll wrap the manifold in thermal tape after install.

 

May I ask what you're using to do the porting? My plan was to use a dremel with a bit for removing soft metal.

 

Otter, Summit Racing sells a P&P kit. It's complete and works very good. Good luck to ya, good winter project. Let me know if you have any questions. Look into doing your own TB also (not boring), there's some work to be done there also.

 

Otter, I think it might be a little too much work for a Dremel. Summit's kit is for a regular electric drill. Works great. Also consider phenolic gaskets. Got mine from PR_Mivec , looks like an exact copy of OEM gaskets.

 

I'll take a look into that kit, sounds slightly less ghetto than what I had in mind. I definitely planned on doing the gaskets, might as well since I'll be in there anyways. Thanks

ok, I understand the gaskets are to combat heat transfer right? and what exactly is porting? polishing, it seems, is self explanatory since rough edges damage smooth air, but I would appreciate if you guys could tell me what the heck all this means. most of the threads I have read just talk about how much power and don't go into detail about what it is. thanks

 

I don't know how true this is of the Ralliarts but becareful with all this polishing. In the Lancer/Mirage world we have heard of guys polishing the intake manifold and causing a loss in performance. Something about roughness of the runners causing a better air mixture. I know you are not polishing the entire runner but just a warning.
