Threw a couple of codes...

About a week ago my CEL lit up and my idle has been real rough ever since. I borrowed a code reader and here are the results:

P0171 - System too lean
P0300 - Random/Multiple Misfire Detected

So I'm thinking it could be:

vacuum leak
fuel injector
spark plug(s)
MAS

Before wasting my time on any of this, am I looking in the right direction? BTW, only idle seems to be affected, I don't feel/notice anything while boosting or normal driving.

I have the same codes, and when i pulled the spark plugs, i found that one of them was burning lean. So that means that one of the fuel injecters are bad
I was told to run seafoam thru the system

*update*

Yeaah, I found my problem!!! I did a boost leak test this weekend and it wouldn't hold any pressure. All I could hear was air hissing somewhere. I had 3 leaks!!!

Leak 1 & 2: About 1 month ago, coming out of a driveway, I hit the street pretty hard shoving the intercooler and mounts back. I bent everything back the best I could. Well turns out that a screw head behind each inlet and outlet IC duct had rubbed their way through causing a small boost leak. I had to take off my front bumper remove the IC and replace booth ducts. I also took off the IC mounts and straightened them out the proper way.

Leak 3: Now I could hear a big hiss behind the intake mani with the pressure test. Well there's this small tube that exits the IM and goes (?). There's now I way I would have found this without a pressure test. Anyway this tube had a huge crack in it. I just replaced it with 1/4 vacuum line and problem solved.

Car idles perfect now, CEL shut off, and it doesn't stall when coming to a full stop off a hard boost. Funny how a $4000 turbo can be crippled by $3 worth of tubing! LOL

Thats good that you found it, one of the joys of turbo is boost leaks.

I'm getting closer day by day to buying the RRM kit.

Can't wait

I know the vaccumm hose you are talking about it is hard to see or spot - but good old cable ties can be very handy to have when they pop off and because they are so small in diameter makes the choice of hoses all that more difficult...
but glad you got it all sorted

no it is a very small vaccumm hose that is located at the very rear and under the plenum chamber of the intake manifold... if you were not looking for it you would not even know it exists

I know that you have rectified this problem but asking more out of curiosity than anything else..
With the piggy back that you have can't you just download the setup that you have and be able to check thru what everything is running at.... and also do a finer tune on the road in road coditions so that you can also investigate problems using a laptop?

To be honest with you I know NOTHING about tuning. I bought a few books about turbos and am working my way through them, then I'll get some more books on tuning and how to analyze data. I'm pretty new to the whole scene and sometimes takes me a while to grasp concepts.

I have an old laptop with a serial port that would be perfect for it, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing first!

So how far away are you from RRM ? sorry for not knowing this it is just that I am a little unfamiliar with the layout of the U.S

Reason why I say this is that they may be able to show you how to load up the cars P.B into your laptop show you how to save the current program.... so that way if youhappen to change anything you can always revert back to an original tune which you know to be a very safe tune

It can be technical as to know how to tune a car and it is not something that I know how to do but having said that watching how David from RPW how he was able to alter some of the ignition and fuel maps etc on the Haltech I think even I could have a go as long as I know what the limits are... and not to exceed those limits...

but this is all the good things about having a modified car that was never meant to be turboed and it is all a learning curve for us like you and I both now know what to look for when the car starts running wierd - check the vaccumm lines

RRM is just under 25 miles from me. In Los Angeles traffic that's anywhere from 20min to 1.5hrs!!!
