RPM Issue
RPM Issue
Guys/Gals,
Sometimes when I'm in line, sitting there my RPM's will not go down. I've had them sit as high as 2000 idling, but most of the time it's at 1200 - 1500. I thought it might be the air filter, I have the injen SRI. I cleaned the filter though it wasn't all that dirty. No Joy. I'm thinking it's the mass air flow sensor, any input? All help is appreciated.

Mine idles at 600-700rpm.
Not quite sure what it could be, is your MAF secured down properly?
If you recently just installed the intake, the ecu is probably just learning the new modification, so generally you will get a rough idle, however it shouldn't be there for too long. If so, try resetting the ecu.
Others will respond shortly

sounds like the engine is not warming up, or the ecu doesn't think it is. first thing, any mods other than sri and have you checked all your fluids, especially your coolant level? Is it throwing a CEL?
target idle (from evoscan) is 7 something RPM's, and cold start is anywhere in the 1k to 2k range. should not hold steady at two for any period of time unless it's frigid outside, and then it still shouldn't stay there.

and did you follow mitvrx's advice about resetting again? after you do so let the car idle for about five minutes before driving anywhere. your throttle isn't sticking is it? manually (while the car is off) push the pedal to the floor with your hand and watch it retract. do this a few times. Also do the same to the tps where the accelerater pedal cable goes to. both should move freely with a quick rebound from WOT. the only other thing is check to be sure the maf is not blocked, or the throttle plate isn't blocked/stuck open. Other than that it's the ECU idling the car up for some sensor or another and you most likely have to take a trip to mitsu, still have your warranty?
All sensors in place, reset the ECU awhile ago. Throttle isn't sticking, I thought that at first. I seriously want to replace the MAS and see what happens, but I thought I'd throw the problem out here and see what you guys come up with for suggestions first. I've found the answers to most of my issues by posting here. I avoid the dealer at all costs. And the answer to the warranty question is I still have powertrain, but i don't have factory parts and if I take it in and it's the MAS, they're gonna charge me an arm and a leg to tell me what I already diagnosed. Would anyone counter the MAS as a good starting point?
Try the MAS first, if you have someone handy you could swap with for a few minutes to test. Otherwise, maybe the coolant temp sensor. If it thinks it's cold, it'll keep it at a high idle to warm itself up.
Any chance you or someone near you has a logger?

It's intermittent, It usually happens in lines like drive thru's. If I borrowed someones it would have to be for a day or two, but I don't know any RA owners in the Memphis area. I don't know anyone with a logger either. But you're in agreement that you think it's most likely the MAS?
im having problems with my rpms. I'll be driving around normal, than i'll be downshifting. As soon as im close to coming to a stop, my rpms will rest at about 6-700, but than drop to like 250 for a second, almost stall out, than come back alive to 6-700 rpms... anybody know why?
