Anyone running NO rear muffler?

Has anyone removed the axel-back rear muffler and replaced it with straight through piping instead of a large rice cannon? WOuld be be any gain in doing this?

Just thinking out loud ....

YES. Decibel Level...lol

I don't think an N/A car could pull it off, unless a TRACK ONLY car. A turbo car might have a better chance, since the Turbo tones down the exhaust a bit......but I wouldn't bet on it.

I am sure that the free-flowing effect would benefit higher end power.....but not enough to sacrifice the lower sound level....

The car sounds BAD enough without a CAT....I couldn't imagine what it would sound like without a Muffler...lol

I've driven to Home Depot to get bolts (snapped two taking the rear muffler off) with no axleback. It gave me AND my girlfriend a headache it was so loud. don't bother, it's not drivable, at least not without earplugs.

If there was a pipe that made it exit at the bumper, It wouldn't be NEARLY as loud in the car.

I have a friend that works in CITY HALL, has his RA with no muffler. No straight pipe, nothing, NO MUFFLER WHATSOEVER. The car is loud....not louder than mine though. Sound nice, loud but deep...like dan said deep, gets to your damn ears

Oh definitely our cops are the same way, pretty sure that many of the guys that formed our police force had to flee Germany in 1945 because they were suddenly out of a job.

Well, ive done it

My gf drove behind me for 10kms this evening to evaluate it as another car on the road. lol . She described it sounding like a SICK DYING PUPPY (not in a good way).

Firstly, I and a mate removed the stock axel-back muffler and took it for a spin --- sounded nuts, and very loud ... but still tolerable when comparing it to a canon muffler. Today we went and bought some 2.25" 45deg mandrell bends, and some straight piping, and 10mm thick mild steel plate and with the aid of an arc, and drill press, we made a straightish bit of piping that bolts up to the stock flange. Took us f'n ages as we're far from pro's ... but worked out well for around ~Au$50 materials.

From the magical point of 3500 MIVEC crossover cam profile .. it pulls soooooo much harder in all gears and only a little lag-ier off the line in 1st. At under 3000rpm its not too loud but does drone a little, but boy it's loud once mivec kicks in.... lol Im talking loud enough for people 100meters up the road to turn their heads to see where the noise is coming from the engine is peaking around 7000rpm.

I figure i'll leave it on for the next week and see if i get sick of it....... or if i get pulled over by cops. lol. i drive 40kms each way to work on freeway and through town, so it'll be a good test to see how it goes. Best of all, is I CAN remove it, and bolt the stock muffler back up at anytime with relative ease

I'll try and get some video footage and pics tmmw maybe.
