Does the order of installation matter?
Does the order of installation matter?
This is a natural extension of my previous post w/ regards to the IM. I was next planning on 41mm headers, high-flow cat, and CB exhaust (haven't decided yet whether from RRM or RPW). However, should I chip it first? Will this much air risk running my system too lean? If I sound ignorant, I apologize, 'tis my first time upgrading a car. Thanks again!
If you choose not to use a piggy back you are not going to see as much gains, however, you're engine won't run lean because the maf and ecu will adjust for the increased airflow. If you are looking to get the most out of your mods a piggyback would be highly recommended before you start going crazy with other mods.
not true. during closed loop the ECU uses the o2 sensors to shoot for stoich. during open loop it uses the sensors to find the correct value on a lookup table. a piggyback alters the signal going to the ECU to fool it into looking at a different cell in the lookup table, and therefor changing the AFR. the ECU is only as good as the tables, and when you start to mod the car the ECU is no longer designed for the components.
to answer your question, you can do it either way. always tune the piggyback though. IMO, you will notice gains from the piggy, and if you intend on getting one go ahead and do that, as well as purchase the wideband so you can tune it yourself as you upgrade. if you don't understand all of this you should do some research, as these are very advanced concepts and your engine is at risk.
