valve adjustment?

valve adjustment?

so my service engine light came on and as of lately when i turn on my a/c my car starts to idle really weird and sometimes will die..i talked to the service guy at the local mitsu place and he said that from what he thought it looked like it needed a valve adjustment. has anyone else experienced any of these symptoms?

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Usually any indling issue is a leak somewhere. Just check all your hoses and look for cracks or any that came off. There's a few hidden ones behind the intake manifold.

I can't imagine valves being so far out of adjustment they'd cause your car to stall.

if it's a stuck valve, then you can experience this. First step, check vaccum. second step, check ignition (plugs in, wires on, battery/alternator), third step check fuel (filter, lines, pressure) last step check compression.

Incorrect valve adjustment can cause idling problems. At one point, I had my valves set so aggressively, that when I had to reset the ECU, the car stalled twice during the learning process. I imagine the same could happen if the lash was too great.

Are you doing that with cam gears or cams?

Neither, I had done it with lash.

It's the gap between the rocker and the stem. I'm not going to get into details of what I did, though. Last thing I need is a bunch of people messing with non-OEM specs and ruining their engines.

What year is your car and how many miles do you have on it?
