2.5" Exhaust - Wise for N/A?
you have to mix OD and ID sizes to make it fit. is it 2.33 ID? if so, it will fit inside the 2.5 OD piping.
Hey Dan, yeah the ID is 2.33" which now makes alot more sense if it was to fit into the 2.5" OD piping.
Cheers for that mate. Will go and sort it out soon now!
Anyone recommend exhausts? Been looking at the following:
5zigen Fireball
5zigen A-Spec (both not easy to find)
HKS Ti
Any others?

Alright guys, picked up my new muffler.
It's a 5zigen A-SPEC Pro Racer muffler. Better than what I wanted
Tomorrow, I'm going to book an appointment for a custom 2.5" CBE.
Q: Should I go stainless steel or just get mild steel?
Q: Also, mandrel bend?
2.5" exhaust piping it is, and i'll have to have them figure a way to get the exhaust to angle at the rear. The last time I fitted my exhaust it was a straight flush because the rear right perch was in the way of the piping.
Migue (and anyone else for that matter), you have angled your muffler, how did you organise the piping? Definitely going to need hangers.

This is were I reach thru the computor screen and slap you across the head
There is no difference between a turbo muffler and a N.A muffler the only thing that you need to concern yourself with is that it is a straight thru with no restrictions or very few restrictions and is going to be quiet... and that it is going to have the same size inlet hole as the exhaust piping
The exhaust piping needs to be 21/2" ( I already thought you had this size?) you will need to make sure that the cat is the same size and the resinator is also that size as soon as you scrimp on one of the sizes it will be an immediate restriction that will rob you of power... and be a waste of time
Now the other thing is stainless steel vs mild - there is no power benefit in either go mild
Press bent vs mandrel, go press bent unless you want turbo ( but you are selling in march/april next year)
The amount of power that you will lose in lower end is not even going to be noticeable as the cam is the same low end profile as factory so you will still have driveability plus you will be getting a retune which may be able to help compensate for this but a tune is not all that nessicary for a exhaust change

As for the HFC, I have RPW's so that should be fine. The resonators I'm definitely going to have to change. What types are there again? Hotdog and not sure of the other one..

I'll probably go and tidy up the tune if need be.
Its wise to ask around , talk to custom exhaust shops that do alot of motorsports work on the side, they would be best to advise you about Muffler and Exhaust Piping size.
If your piping is too large your exhaust flow will cool and become dense, and create back pressure in on it self. Dense air is heavier to move. Its hard to find the right balance and sometimes its trial and error. Balancing pipe size and optimizing restriction is a tricky business. Restriction can also be used to balance backpressure.
Simply put, before you get a custom job done, besure to ask alot of questions and go thru the what iff senarios.

I always get slapped. lol.
I always had 2.25" piping. Opting for 2.5" with tune for peak power.

I'm not getting a retune because of the exhaust change specifically. The reason for the tune is because I feel as though I am running lean up top. Therefore, Tuesday this week, I will goto Haltech, pop her on the dyno and get the AF ratios, to make sure everything is running fine.

Whats the point of going to a larger tubing size and still get press bent tubing? Press bent tubes end up being smaller in diameter in the bends... If you have a nice 2.5" all through the exhaust, then add a restriction bent tubing, you might as well just run smaller exhaust... Mandrel bends all the way... A little more expensive, and most exhaust shops don't have a mandrel bender, but its worth it...
Confirmed with Haltech just then, will be taking the car in tomorrow for a run on the dyno to make sure everything is running nice.
Called the exhaust muffler shop, he will call me before Friday to organise a date to have the 2.5" exhaust fitted.
I'll try and get this CEL Eliminator thing organised because since the car will be hoisted, it would probably be best to have it installed then!

I was thinking of actually putting the above muffler on my 2.25" exhaust pipe. I'll have to modify the existing exhaust though. Since its a cannon it should free up the air flow since its a straight canon.
Thoughts?
Thoughts?
Okay, so now I have a 2.5" exhaust with the cannon muffler and 1 resonator.
Now my thoughts.
I'm never going to try a cannon exhaust ever again, at least on this car. It sounds ridiculous. Its so bad, I put my sunnies on, felt sick in the stomach and have never felt so embarrassed to drive this car. It was everything I was against. Loud, tinny, farty and the like.
From what I understand, the exhaust piping gives the tone (the larger the piping the deeper the sound) and the muffler itself plays a major role in the sound of the car.
Seriously, this car sounds like its the girl in highschool who won't shutup and wants all the attention.
Don't get me wrong, this muffler is good, just not for this car. I went for a second gear roll and my gawd, it was loud as hell. I mean, it was loud like supercharged loud - certainly not for daily driving.
Tomorrow, I'm going back to do the following options:
-check for holes in the exhaust, that can cause a really large sound in the exhaust.
-swap mufflers, test drive
-change back to 2.25" exhaust with my MF (Magnaflow) muffler
-add another resonator
-add another resonator and place the MF muffler back on.
*sigh*

I never did look at the muffler on your ride... A lot of guys will say you need a straight through muffler for more power... I disagree, but thats not the point... Look for a 2-3 chamber muffler, it will tone it down alot...
Yeah, 2.5 makes it deep.... Slaps again, get a muffler which packs GOOD insulation, dont buy NAMES. U should be able to tell by looking in it and holding it for weight. It WILL Sound louder, but they bigger piping should help keep it low at low revs.... then a a certain RPM and depending how you accelerate, all hell should break loose... When I go past 3500 rpms and Im accelerating hard it sounds loud, but good, not like that too loud sound u describe. Also, check your resonator, my first piping came with a faulty resonator, it used to " Ding" when it got warm. Most muffler place just pick a resonator and slap it on a car without even knowing if its good or not...they just care about how new it looks
