RRM CAI Question....

i was wondering if its ok to cut off the RRM CAI & convert it to SRI. i would think its possible but i think i need to weld a hanger close to where u put the MAF is. coz the RRM SRI looks exactly the same like CAI except the CAI is longer of course. anyways if this would work ok with no problem whatsoever then this could be a cheaper version of injen intake coz u can still use the cut off part & convert it back to CAI with the use of coupler. what do u guys think?

Thanks

This should not pose you any trouble at all.

if you look at other manufacturers like AEM, theirs is CAI and SRI. and its reversible. i dont see why youd have any problems as long as the fuel sprays and theres no leaks for dirty air to get in. on my SRI all i did was cut off the Stock airbox and attach a $30 cone filter right before the MAF sensor. worked like a charm. i could feel the power. haha. or maybe just hear it. :P

Just make sure you get a clean cut but what would be sweet is if you could some how make it work with a v-band clamp.

I just got my RRM CAI yesterday and as I was cleaning it up (its used) that thought crossed my mind too. I didn't really scope out what kind of room I had or where to cut though b/c I was too excited about installing the CAI. As long as you have a straight cut, I don't see any reason why it would cause any problems.

A second thought: It would be nice to see a dyno with the SRI and then convert back to CAI and run another dyno just for some comparison numbers. I'm sure this has already been done though, I didn't search, it just popped in my head as I was typing.
