auto to 5 speed

i have an opportunity to get my hands on a 5 speed tranny, i know there are some experienced guys on here so my question is.........from top to bottom.....what am i going to need...........some may say its not worth and would cost to much but i owe to much on the car and a couple grand is something i can afford so im seriously considering the option. But once again...........whats going to be on the list of parts, besides the tranny.

you would probably need center console and guages if it tells you if your in park reverse or drive. i dont know if it has that on the autos.

Why not just sell your car and use the money you get from that plus your $2k if you need it and buy a manual? Seems to be MUCH less of a hassel.

I say go for it. I have seen many transmission swaps over the years. A/T to M/T, M/T to A?T. Was going to swap one of my DSM's a few years ago and then it got hit and parted out.
But the point is it can be done. Prove the naysayers wrong. Don't rush it. Take the time to assemble everything you need, as cheap as possible.
Apparently these cars get wrecked fequently(whos playing Torreto?), but I am sure you can get everthing you need.
I would first buy a factory service manual. That way you have the information necessary to fully research your project first. Good luck if you choose to do this.
Also I think this is something many Sportback owners would like to do. They just can't sell and buy a manual version.

I had a quote on my 01 mirage that was around 1300 to get the swap. If you search around, you should be able to find a good deal on parts. You could do it under 2k.

yea, it costed me bout 2700 to do it. that included pats that they got out of another oz plus labor. there wasnt really a diffrence in feel performance wise, just the fact that it was a 5spd made me feel good. i only told them to do it cause my auto tranny went out and i figured to just have it put in since ill need another anyway

No but the RA sedan trans will work just fine.
I plan on this for spring '09 myself.
