Engine cuts off while driving!

hi, my name is eduardo, im from mexico, im new in this forum so i hope my post be in the right section!

i have a problem with my 4g69 RA since 3 weeks ago, the failure started after a drag race, when im driving specially at low rpm's (2ks or 3ks) and gas pedal at 1/4 or 1/2 position the car randomly dies for 1 second or less and when this happens, the check engine light turns on and fastly turns of and the car continues moving normally (the car did this yesterday at least 6 times)
so it obviously upset me a lot, so i dissconect all visible harness (and some not visible too behind the rear plastic box) and i used wd 40 on them, but the probem is still there it feels like a spark cut of or something like these =( i really love this car but all this stuff is killing me! so please help me!!!

p.s. there's no check engine light turned on permanently so my obd II scanner don't get me any clue =(

greetings!

The car dies as in shuts off or you lose power?

check your battery terminals to see if they are loose or grounding out at all. I had a silimar prob with my old talon. The battery was grounding out on the hood

If you have loss of pedal control its most likely the throttle control. It is a common problem for our cars.

i already did it buddy, i screwed again all visible grounds (batt, vertical engine mount, in-hood fuse box) but the problem is still there =(

curiously, when i floor it, the car never fails and it pulls like always did it=S

i already had that trouble one year ago, my throttle actuator unit was done! so i repleaced it, but when this happened Idle was sometimes too low or too high and sometimes it just keept between 2,500 - 3,000 rpm and i didn't have any control on gas pedal, so i had to turn off the car, wait few seconds, and turn it on for drive it again
but this time it feels different, so i guess it is a different problem, this one feels more like a spark trouble, maybe crankshaft position sensor malfunction or false contact due to vibration?

i'm thinking about crankshaft position sensor malfunction or maybe dust or something between sensor and sprocket, or may be just a false contact due to vibration, i've repleaced crankshaft position sensor one year ago, but it never fails in this way, in fact it was running fine until one day when i was driving back to home suddenly my tach died and my check engine light was permanently turned off, so i noticed this time when car fails for that half second tach rise down near to 0 and when the power comes back it raises again, could be a crankshaft sensor malfunction?

I'm having the same problem with my car. We rebuilt the motor, and just dropped it into the motor bay few weeks ago. We started it up a few days ago and it ran fine. idled perfect. but as soon as we reved it up, at around 2000-3000 rpms. the motor just shuts off. completely. He did all the compression and fuel pressure tests. Car runs perfect. He thinks the exact same thing as you. He thinks its the Crank position sensor. If not that, than some type of sensor. My mechanic, and a toyota certified tech, are both looking into this problem for me now. As soon as i hear something, i'll let you know.

i think they are by the right way! my mechanic just call some minutes ago so he told me that my crankshaft position sensor was impregned with some metalic residues, as sensor is an inductor ( it works with an internal magnet) the metalic "burrs" (i'm not sure about this word but i hope you understand me =P) get over sensor, so he removed them and cleaned it and sprocket. the car is ready, so im going to his workshop right now for a test drive, i really hope the problem desseapear , i'll let you know at afternoon what happened !

hi man, it's unbelievable my f*** trouble is still there!!!!! i don't know what else to do, i hope you have better luck than me ! keep me posted about your ride, my mechanic told me to do an ecu cleaning with wd-40 i'm not sure about it... but however... i don't have anything to lose... by the way i saw a lot of relays next to my fuses box and behind my steering wheel but my owners manual doesn't explain anything about them... could be my trouble due to a relay ?? i think that because yesterday, when my SES light turned on for that half second, i can heard a lilttle "tic" sound like relays do, may be it's a clue... what do you think about it?

SOLVED!!!! =)

in my desperation, i unscrewed my throttle body for clean it so when i look inside the intake manifold i saw a lot (really too much! =S) carbon residues, so i remember a check engine code 1 month ago with the description: "EGR malfunction" and a few hours later CES light turned off, so i think that maybe was just a false code, but egr connector was sulfated, so i cleaned and installed it again, then i turn on the car and cleaned both throttle body and intake manifold, then i went for a test drive and... whoala!!! it's fixed!
thanks a lot for your time buddy, i hope this solve your problem too!
