120K Service
Hey guys
So my car is almost due for a 120K service. Now I'm beginning to have some questions.
Went and read here for a bit
http://www.mitsubishicars.com/media/...aintenance.pdf
Now so far I had my timing belt/seals/water pump all done around 100K when I had my engine failure as well as had all the transmission fluid replaced so that knocks out alot of the maintenance from what I know.
I'm going to be taking it to a shop to do the maintenance cause I no longer have a jack to lift my car up to get to some of the parts as well as my car is too low to get up on ramps.
For what I CAN do on my own at least purchase some of the parts is the brakes, cabin filter, air filter, oil/filter, and spark plugs. Not sure if i can do anything else besides those. Draining/disposing of coolant is a complete mystery to me and I just dont feel like dealing with it.
Now for my questions. In terms of brakes I currently have the Hawk HPS pads which I dont think I'm going to be purchasing again just because of the huge amount of brake dust. I was looking into the Duralast pads such as:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...848_16108_4107
or
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...71_0_1610_4107
Anyone have any reviews on these? Do you think they'll be any good for a DD? I dont track the car but just a bit of spirited driving.
As far as oil goes. Right now I'm using conventional oil but I'm beginning to wonder if switching over to synthetic is worth it? Do you think that the engine can even handle it based on the high mileage of the engine? If I went synthetic would Mobil1 with a Napa Gold filter be a good setup? I've heard of using AMSoil but I dont know much about it to think of trying it.
Now for the question of spark plugs. Are these the ones I want? I know we use the Iridium ones but wasnt sure if this is what I was looking for

NOW FOR THE UPGRADE PORTION!
I wanted to look into purchasing a transmission cooler but I have no experience when it comes to this. Again I'm looking at the Autozone site since it's really close to my house. There's alot to choose from so I have no idea which would be a good fit for the car. If anyone can help me out here that'd be awesome:

If you think Autozone is too cheap do you think that the RRM is worth the extra cashflow?

I'm looking into the Techna-fit SS brake lines and I can already get a pretty awesome deal for all 6 lines so that's already set in my mind on purchasing.
So far that is all I can think of. If anyone has any tips or reviews of said products please feel free to chime in before I go on a spending spree

Yes I dont track the car but I do like to do some crazy driving here and there and I figure its about time that my rubber brake lines need to be changed anyway cause I dont believe they were ever changed out since I had the car so why not upgrade? At least that way I get the benefit of having better stopping power along with the rest of my brake setup
For new lines per side it is $75 for front and rear so both sides would make it up to about $150ish. I can pick up the TF lines for $135ish for all 6

I personally would switch over to synthetic with an oil stabilizer like Lucas Oil. I have had a couple high mileage cars and had no issues switching to synthetic oil aside from a bit of smoke for a few days.
For spark plugs, stick to the recommended NGK's. The part number is in the manual, and somewhere on this site.
As for the SS break lines, I would get them. I do not have them (yet) but they are supposed to make the pedal feel firmer, which I like. If you do not like a touchy break pedal, then you probably shouldn't bother replacing them at all unless the lines looked dry and cracked like weather worn tires do.

I do want a more responsive brake pedal which is why I thought of picking up the lines.
No one has any ideas on the brake pads or the transmission cooler?
Looked into the spark plugs... Are these the ones I need? It only says Nissan/Infiniti that it works with and nothing about Mitsus. Also is that a good deal for how much they're asking?

I got my transmission cooler from Napa, it's a 10x5 in. You don't want a big one because it is already going through the radiator and adding a cooler that is to big it will cool the fluid to much and that's not good. I didn't get to install a gauge to see the temp yet.

Personally I would not go with the duralast pads. I've put them on the last two times I've changed my brakes. And I hate them. No matter what I do they start squeeling way quick. And I've noticed quite a bit of brake dust from them as well. I'm actually hoping to find a better set. I'm just not sure what to go with. I've always used duralst on my previous vehicles (2 Jeeps) and they where great, but they just aren't cutting it on my RA.

On the passenger side? Isn't the trans on the drivers? Also how hard was the install and how did you keep trans fluid from spilling everywhere while hooking it up?

Yes on passenger side because the line that is coming out from the radiator is the one on the passenger side so it's closer there. The way I have it is from the trans is going into the stock radiator and from there into the trans cooler and then back to the trans. I just had a pan under the car, when you disconnect the line the fluid will not shoot out it will drip. Make sure when you're done installing it to check the level and refill if you have to.

So my Techna-fit brake lines came in today which im really happy about.

Am I correct in assuming the top 2 lines are for my front brakes and the bottom 4 are for my rears? Also do the bottom lines connect to each other to form 2 long brake lines? there are 2 lines with female/male ends while the other 2 have female ends on both?
I'll be going to a car shop tomorrow to pick up some ATE Superblue brake fluid for when I flush the system and I just picked up some Duralast Gold brake pads tonight so when I get the car into service we'll see how much work has to be done leftover.

you are correct, the two long ones are for the front as the front caliper uses a banjo type fitting. I see they've even included new crush washers and banjo bolts for that, bonus.
for the rear, the ones with the male ends will screw into the rear caliper, and the female end of those thread onto a male/male coupler then to the next line, then to the hard line.
for the rear, the flex lines do not swivel, so you need to take the entire caliper off to tighten both ends of the line.

I'm not sure why I would need to completely take off the entire caliper? the male ends are the only ones that dont swivel while ALL the female ends on both lines do? Can't I just connect to caliper first and then screw the female end to the male/male adapter?
