jack the front of the car up so both wheels are off the ground, turn one wheel by hand, if the other one spins in the opposite direction you don't have an LSD. If they both spin in the same direction you very well could have one. The other way to check is by opening up the transmission, and physically looking at it, it's very obvious at that point.

What kind of car does your friend have?

Nissan Sentra SER spec-v had LSD as an option from the factory, also some models of Ford cars had it as an option, but not standard equipment, Not sure if there are others. Very hard to find, AND be sure that one was installed from the factory.

This is genuine mitsubishi parts, as far as i know there is no mitsu part number for a "timing belt kit", but this is what you need.

The kits are aftermarket, and i don't know the part number.
I'm about to change my timing belt what would i want to change ^ all of that and are the kits on ebay any good what's your advice Cranswick? If you type in (belt 4G69) on ebay you will see the kit check it out and let me know they want $190 thats pretty far off from $394.22 but then again Genuine Parts are not cheap.

My advice would be to go genuine, but if that's not in your budget, it doesn't really matter. The main thing would be if you were still under warranty, and bought the genuine parts and had mitsubishi do the work, it should be covered. But if you're doing the work yourself, or having some random mechanice do it, it doesn't really matter if you use aftermarket parts, i can't say mitsu parts are better or they will last longer, because i don't know, and they probably aren;t any better. If you want to get an ebay kit, go for it, i don't see a problem, especially at less than $200, that seems pretty reasonable.

Oh, and you'll need all of those things i listed, then you won't have to worry about anything being the "weak link" when it's all back together and 30k miles down the road.

Edit*
Forgot to include timing idler pulley..I'll grab the part number for that as well.
