I understand that....but it the TOB was just sticking and wouldn't allow the starter to engage the flywheel. I tried not to overthink...replaced the TOB and boom problem free for months now.

It turns out that it was the battery that was the major culprit. I boosted it and the car started so I am blaming the battery on this one.

Although I spent money on a freakin sensor and starter motor.

 

I'd imagine it's a normally closed switch, opened when you hold the clutch pedal to the floor. I'm positive you don't have to short it. As I said, I unplugged mine before I drove it off the dealer's lot.

 

Not questioning the fact that your problem went away when you replaced your TOB, I still don't see how the TOB could possibly prevent the starter from engaging the flywheel. While they are in close proximity, they do not interact directly.
