Durability????
Durability????
Hey guys, new to the forums here and im sure this has been asked before but i havent been able to find it. in any case im looking at buying a 2004 ralliart but a little worried about how many miles it has on it. it drove great but in any case its got 123xxx miles (198xxxkm). how much longer does it have before a rebuild or should i just run away?
i turbocharged mine at 192,000km, been driving it HARD ever since, i'm at around 201,000km now...so far so good...
i bought the car with 120,000km on it, and i raced it almost every week since...as long as the maintenance is in check, it should be ok, if the price is right...how's the body? have a look underneath as well, and suspension components...big thing to look into is the last timing belt/waterpump service...

Nice! thanks for the advice. asking price is 6200 which seems a little high to me. body looks pretty good, couple scratches here and there and just two accidents, the biggest claim was for $2100. thanks for the heads up on the timing belt etc. going to have a mechanic take a closer look at it before i make an offer. any other advice?

yeah, that's what i'm getting at...i paid 10k for mine, after taxes and registration, it was around 12k, for an 06 with sun & sound...they wanted 14k before taxes...i told them they were crazy, although the Canadian automobile market is always on the expensive side, even 10k was steep considering my timing belt failed within the year...
Definitely too high on the price given the 2 accidents and the high mileage. But have the underbody checked out for rust, major service items could include water pump, timing belt, brake job, new suspension (I only put this on here as mine are worn out after 120k kms, struts anyway), check and see when the last time fluids were changed out as well.
I wouldnt go any higher than 3000-3500 in my opinion, as you may have some of those major service items come up in the near future.
As far as durability though, I have driven my 05 from 0-120k kms and havent had one major issue save the suspension. These are fun cars and you won't be disappointed if you get one.

mark - cant blame you
everyone else, hes asking 6200. saying inspection goes well tommorrow what can/should i offer? i would love to get it for what other suggested paying earlier but i dunno. loved the way it drove and seemed to be in great condition. i really appreciate everyones input and i hope to join the ranks of mitsu owners soon
I bought my 04 with about 65k miles on it a year and a half ago for about 6500. No accidents and it came with aftermarket exhaust and sun and sound, AND I bought it from a dealer.
I'm with these guys, I would offer about half (or a small amount more) of what he's asking. Look around for others (locally & online) while you're waiting for it to be inspected and compare prices.
Also, I would check kbb.com for their ball park price.

It really depends on how much maintenance he can prove has been done, with receipts and such DO NOT take people's word for those things. How bad the accidents were, was it a fender bender, a scratch, or was it ran into something. And how the inspection comes back.
Either way if the accidents were bad enough I wouldnt bother, unless you plan on never getting rid of it and turning it into a rally car or something. And if the inspection comes back really bad.
If the accidents were minor, and he has no physical proof of maintenance, but the inspection was ok. Then Id offer 3500-4000. Cause catching up on maintenance can get expensive.
If the accidents were minor, he DOES have proof of all maintenance and its up to date, and the inspection was ok. Then I may offer 4500-5000. Cause the mileage is still dragging it down.
Either way when you make an offer point out to him why you chose the dollar amount you did. When you start nit-picking sellers start to thinking they have a pile of crap on their hands and they are more likely to get rid of it. Talking them down is key.
Good luck brother!
