Weird Noise

Ok, I've been trying to figure out what this noise is I'm hearing from the front end of my car. It's coming from the left front. Almost like a knock. I thought it was my axle but it can't be. I'd drive and put my foot on the clutch the noise would go away. Take my foot off and it would come back. The noise comes and goes as I'm driving and it's starting to drive me crazy. Any idea what it could be? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

I'll try. Not sure if you'll be able to hear it with the exhaust but I will certainly try to

hmmm...
this sounds so familiar...
left front end--meaning driver side?
almost like a knock?
foot on clutch (disengaged) = noise is gone?
i'm thinking TOB
not sure though so please post the audio/video clip for clarification of the noise.
but i'm pretty sure it's the TOB as i have the same problem.
been a year now and i still haven't replaced it.

I had the exact same problem, its most likely your throw out bearing, (tob) I'm in the process of doing mine right now, waiting to get my flywheel back. Do you hear the noise while slowly in 1st gear?

it's there when i go on 1st and 2nd.
are you replacing the TOB only?
or the whole clutch system?
i just adjusted my clutch pedal as i felt it was too tight.
didn't wanna damage anything.
don't forget to adjust yours too bro!
have fun!

PS:
are you machining your flywheel?
where did you get it done?

mine was quite pricey..i posted the cost in my upper rebuild thread...the machinist said it costed more because it's a "tin back" (sheet metal hub) flywheel...

Ahh ok so you think it's the TOB? Didn't think of that. I'm not 100% sure if I'm hearing it while sitting still or not. I'll have to drive the car again to see but I know for sure when moving you can hear it. If it's the TOB I plan to replace the clutch and flywheel as well. By chance would this happen to be the reason my clutch pedal is so hard? It's extremely stiff. I'll bleed the clutch, then it feels normal again and maybe a day later it goes back to being super hard to push down. Barely taking the pedal off the ground the car will stall if your not gassing. Hope that makes sense..... Now my Jetta is the opposite, the clutch releases in the middle of the pedal vs the RA releases damn near on the floor.......

My GF's turbo beetle is the other end it doesn't disengage till you've nearly let completely out on it. Not what I've ever been use to in a manual car. And frustrating for me cause I got long legs! lol I feel like my knee is in my chest before this thing starts to pull at all... haha

bwahahhaaaa!!!! I'm used to the clutch being in the middle. My old accord was the same. Now if it let out at the end I'd be like you as well. My knees hit the bottom of the column now because I have it pulled out towards me. The RA is so stiff I feel like I'm doing leg presses my husband doesn't mind but damn that I need to stop that foolery!

Well, I pulled mine out, examined the tob, its pretty rough. Definitely the cause. However, while I have the tranny out, I'm replacing syncros and bearings. As well as upgrading to an act clutch system. If this doesnt fix it, 4G63 SWAP!!! just kidding... lol

hmmm that sounds like a nice maintenance routine for me to do as well lol.
how did your tob look like?
did you take pics?
i think mine would look worse than yours...
are you doing all of this by yourself?
or are you getting it done by a mech at a shop somewhere?
if you're free sometime, do you mind helping me replace mine too?
i would love to get my synchros/bearings/tob done but i just don't have the funds to get it done by a mech.
they're charging me $300 just to crack my trans open and they said it doesn't matter if they fix it or not.
as long as they crack it open, it's $300...
if you don't mind helping me out (since we live so close to each other) i would love to learn a thing or two.
i was gonna go to Trenton to see if Garrett could help me out but i think he's busy these days.
he posted a few weeks ago that BOTH of his Lancers are down...
so yeah bro, just let me know.
sorry for being so upfront but i just really need some help...
and i also want to learn these things first-hand as i would love to help others too if they ever need it.
thanks in advance!

Try putting your phone right in the engine bay and I'm sure you'll have some good recordings.
Also, try to locate where the sound is coming from and just hover your phone over it.
That should be fine.
If all else fails, try finding a clip on the internet (YouTube, Google, etc.) and post up the closest one to the sound that you are hearing.
I think that should work too.

there's no way for me to put my phone in the engine bay lol. This sound only happens when I'm driving the car and I'm not gonna try that with my phone in the bay area hahahaaa. I'll try to get someone to ride with me and help me get the sound and I'll also search yt.
