Installed CAI, car sputters, loser power at 5k
Thanks I really appreciate that. I raced DSMs for 9 years and recently made the switch to something more "family friendly" per my wifes request (no turbos/4 doors) so I am in slightly familiar territory but runnin kind of blind. I think shrinking the line the MAF is in will fix the problem, it makes a lot of sense to me. Theres a flow difference between a 2" tube and a 3" tube at the same velocity. My ecu probably thinks my MAF is drunk. I will keep you guys posted to see if that fixes the problem.
... Just SOMETIMES And bro, that's pretty cool how you have TONS of experience with DSMs! Keep up the good work and maybe some day we can all arrange an EvoM meet and check out each other's Ralliarts

As for the issue at-hand, I think our theory makes sense. If your ECU is not tuned to allowing that much air through, I would think the MAF is drunk as well

Cheers bro! And keep us posted!
Yeah I agree, I love car meets. But it looks like most of you guys are in Ontario, but I think I am long overdue for a trip across the border.
And yeah my wife rode in my 2g GSX ONE time for about 12 seconds, enough time to get up to about 170 and back to zero so she could get out and walk home hahaha.
And I have to admit, that MIVEC feeling is so awesome. I would love to see what that feels like someday with a turbo and MIVEC. Cruising speed -> Hyper Speed -> WARP TEN. That is how I imagine it.

Hmmm, I read around Google and here are some tips that I found before you do anything with the piping:
- Check for vacuum leaks and cracked hoses/seals.
- Make sure everything is sealed AIR-TIGHT.
- Check your plugs?
Here's an article regarding this issue on a Civic. Maybe you'll pick up something from it?

Found another thing you can try. But I gotta ask first because maybe you've done it already...
Did you let your ECU re-learn idle?
People are saying that may be the cause of this. I'm just trying to find a solution that doesn't involve of you getting rid of anything that you just installed. Also, try cleaning the MAF with sensor cleaner and THEN do the ECU re-learn process.
Cheers bro!
PS: I've been posting here non-stop. I feel like I'm spamming your thread LMFAO. Or maybe I am........ *evil laugh*

Yeah, I will explore other options once I swap out the MAF Section, it was running prefectly smooth prior to the swap. No leaks anymore, I had one leak but I fixed it and it still runs the same.
I will have to keep an eye out for upcomming events I can make it to and set some time aside to journey out to you guys. And yeah I've seen Eddie's DSM, that manifold is awesome. I had a top mount Turbo and ran a vent in the hood bump to it. Miss that car, but really love my new Ralliart.

unplug the battery for like a couple minutes, then plug it back in. Turn the car on and let it sit for 10 minutes or until it has completely warmed up.
This process really just lets the ECU learn the idle and all the sensors and what not. It will continue to learn for a while. I want to say almost 100 miles till it really finds itself. I don't know how long it takes for the long fuel trims to set in though.
Just did this today actually. Not really sure if flashing the rom actually resets anything in the ECU so I always reset the bad boy after the writing process.

Be careful with that stuff the MAF cleaner. Myself and a couple of other people have killed their MAF with it. But with seafoam in the tank I highly doubt it's going to do much, if anything with the two combined.
Alright, I mixed it sort of strong in there (half a can in 7/8 of a tank) because i ran the other half through the vacuum hose. And before we jump to any conclusions the car was doing this before the Seafoam, but less after.
I will disconnect my MAF in a min and after driving home through traffic i will let you guys know if there are any improvements to the situation. If by tomorrow there is no major improvement I will for sure replace the 3" tube.

the maf housing needs to be smaller, or the signal needs to be scaled...you guys raped this thread with small talk, so while we're at it, i will be attending the Evo/DSM shootout this year if you want to see what 12psi boost through a 2.4L mivec feels like
