rotating flywheel clockwise

I rotated it backwards 1 to 2 turns. Why? Tightening the flywheel. The rope down the cylinder worked but the first few times I guess there wasnt enough rope. When I went to remove it got stuck and took an hour to remove.

I have been told that rotating the flywheel clockwise can bind up the timing belt and make it skip a tooth. Sounds possible, not sure what the tensioner looks like though.

I should have looked or remembered that the crank pulley has a 1/2 socket hole I could have used. Dang it. Anyone have the exact alldata steps for checking timing. The thread was ok but really only 3 of the posts are helpful.
