Clutch is probably not fully releasing. Start with easy/cheap stuff to check, and hope you find the problem there. Check brake fluid level at the reservoir first. Then check for fluid leaks at the slave cylinder (the rubber accordion boot usually fills with fluid if it's leaking.) Then check the master cylinder, under the hood and inside the car, under the dash. A bad master will leak fluid one or both places. There's a good master cylinder replacement write-up in the how-to section, should you need it.

If the hydraulic system all checks out, you might try adjusting the pushrod on the pedal. If all that doesn't do the trick, you're probably looking at pulling the transmission to inspect the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and release fork. I've had the little damper springs in the clutch disc break into pieces, which got lodged in places they shouldn't, which was preventing me from releasing the clutch.

Good luck!
