I put in a Road Race Motorsports CAI. The idle is a little rougher - almost 'lumpy' - like an old musclecar and the engine is a little louder in the high revs - not to the point of sounding like headers - and I like it! It feels like it pulls a little stronder too.

Ya, I have the RRM CAI too, and the idle is definately a little more erratic, sometimes, right when I start the car it seems to have a bit of a shutter too, but I dont think it's anything to worry about.

My friend suggested disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to reset the ECU. Any reason *not* to do this?

We're talking about the replacement filter for the stock airbox.

James....we're talking about K&N Panel filters for the Ralliart, not at the typhoons for the EVO. You should probably search the EVO forums for your intake.

Jazzy....I don't think K&N has any typhoon intakes for the Ralliart yet.

i think my tranny needs to be warmed up before it will shift normal.. the fluid change must have done that

so the k&n is not the blame

The regular Lancer has a different motor than the Ralliart, so probably not.

actually....all lancers 02-04 share the exact same intake setup, Ralliarts included. So the same part number applies for all Lancers. Even Evos, I believe.

I've got good news and better news.

Tonite I disconnected the battery and came inside and played a little Prince of Persia and ate. Then I went out and reconnected it and started it up. Let it idle for about 20 minutes, seemed fine (around 6-700rpm), but then it started kicking up to 1000-1100 for a few seconds every few minutes. I was taking advantage of that time to thumb thru the manual and found the section on "What is my engine runs rough after battery install?"

They suggested idling it until it's warm, then shutting it off and restarting to idle for 10 more minutes. I shut it off, restarted and let it idle for 20 minutes more and it never kicked up again. I'd have to say that I've got one reset ECU.

On the RalliArt site I went to yesterday, the same filter is listed for the Lancer Sedan and the Evo... that would mean that the filter is the same... hinting that the intake is probably the same...

Which leads me to conclude that what you where saying all along is probably true: if this intake is not too restrictive for the base 2.0 engine, it should be restrictive as hell for ours... (I know, I know... you told me so)
