Unhappy rust problem...please help

So i have about 8000 miles on my Ralliart and it has never seen snow...all four wheels look like this pic. I took it to the dealer because i was under the impression we have full corrosion coverage from the factory warranty. Apparently it doesn't cover this rust.....go figure. I bought the Dupli-Color caliper paint kit and will be painting the calipers this weekend. If there is something i could to to eliminate that rust while my wheels are off, that would rock..obviosly its an eye-sore and all the red calipers in the world won't make it look better..
Any suggestions?
thanks
-scott

we dont have corrosion warranty, as far as i know the rust protection is an extra from the dealership. i have the same car & same problem (same mileage too), and i guess the only thing that would help is cleaning and painting the rusty parts with some rustproof industrial paint. im planning on doing that when i get my calipers done as well, but if you find something else that works, let me (and everyone else) know.

I went back to autozone where i bought the caliper kit and asked an employee what they thought i should do. He said that painting it would not make a difference, even with that high temp engine paint that is rated for 1200 degrees. He said the heat would just cause it to chip and fall off. He offered the solution of taking a body grinder with a wirebrush end and attacking the rust with that whenever its to ugly to deal with....
I really hope that isn't the only solution...
As for the rotors looking like that because they are supposed to....well...if its rusty, its ugly, and that is not good. And they didn't look like that when i drove it off the lot.

i thought i saw someone here with that part painted, im not sure... anyway, i really dont think brakes get THAT hot, the paint should stay as long as you prime the surface properly. and the rotors - yeah, i doubt there is anything you can do about that, you cant put anyhting on those cause if it chips, it might screw with the actual braking. and we dont want that.

Rotors will rust no matter what you do to them, unless you buy those expensive carbon fiber type rotors. You could try painting the center of the rotor and the edge, but it'll still end up rusting which will cause the paint to chip away over time.

they will look like that, what i did, i used spray for engines on my previous car (color: black) anything that will be heat proof, it will look alot better, make sure to take off your wheels and cover some parts to prevent spraying on some other surfaces.... like calipers. etc.

He is right, there is NOTHING you can do. As most of you should know, heat causes chemical reactions to happen at a quicker pace (metal rusting is a chemical reaction between the metal and oxygen).
So the extreme heat makes the rotor rust easily. All rotors look like that at some point, however the rust is not a structural problem since the rust is not very flaky. The first rust layer protects the metal underneath it.
Oh yeah, the RA comes with a 5 year/unlimited mile corrosion warranty. It involves just the body though. So a rusty caliper, or a rusty bolt is not going to be covered.

Well, sanding off the rust and painting the rotor hats with high heat paint will help prevent rust from occurring for a long time. You just need to keep them clean and NEVER spray them with brake cleaners.

I painted the rotor hats and calipers of my 99 GSX and my 97 VR4 and they didn't rust until I got rid of them a year later. If you paint them correctly, you will be happy with them for a long time.

I am actually planning on painting my rotor hats and calipers on my RA and VR4 soon.

no rust

Strange , my rotors still look like the day I bought the car. No rust at all. They came with a light grey paint on the hats that seems to stand up well against rust and heat (until the salt comes this winter I guess) Did everyone elses rotors have this paint on them? My car has 11500 km , around 8000 miles?

post a pic of that if you can! I'd like to see the hats with the coating on them.

I think mine have that, too. No rust, yet. With the coming of the salt season, though, I'm sure they'll get rusty by next summer.

Here's a pic of my rotor. You can see just a little bit of rust along the outer edge, but none on the hat.

That one looks like mine, some rust on the edge, none on the hat. To the first poster, have you overheated/been really hard on your brakes? Have you used your e-brake to slow down the car?
