Oil Catch Tanks

First off, are they hype, or do they actually help? THe idea is to remove carbon and other burnt oid byproduct crap from the engine intake (kinda like the filter does, but on the other side, i guess). Also looks nice. But, does it effect performance at all? Do they really make a diff on oil/engine health?

that said, has anyone tried throwing one in the RA? I know some can fit in the OZ/ES, so are our taps the same size? THe GReedy one takes a 9mm hose, so I guess thats a start....

You shouldn't need one yet. They're mostly to catch the oil that gets blown out through the PCV valve, usually from a combination of forced induction and bad piston rings.

The MAIN reason why people get these is cause they look sick under the hood. Its just an added bonus that it helps (somewhat) keep the engine clean.

They're not THAT expensive....if ya like the look then why not....but it won't hurt your performance.

I always thought those were for turbo cars only - I'm always reading the evo guys installing them and some even made homemade ones.

They actually do work. It separates the oil and contaminates out of the return air, and you drain it occasionally. If you ever take off your TB and intake, you will see why these work. Its usually crusted with black gunk. The catch can catches it before it gets back to your engine and keeps your intake system clean.

linkie

The turbo guys use them to keep their intercoolers & intake sustem clean.

so as far as installing goes, where you you hook it up? By air return, are you talking about the black rubber tubing that goes from the back left side of the valve cover to the intake manifold, or the tube that comes off the right side of the cover that goes into the intake sensor? or something else? I dont see how any oil would be found in either of these, but then again, i dunno how the intake system works between the valve and the filter. any links?

thanks again!

Does anyone have a pic of them installed on a lancer or evo? I'm curious to see how it would look in our engine bay. I've seen them on RSX's and they look nice.

Has anyone installed one of these in a Ralliart though? I'm curious to see where it would go.
