replacing head unit (stereo)?
ok... ive got an ipod... im tired of using fm transmitters... i was looking to buy a deck with a line in on the front... if i bring my car to ccity or something and get a deck... will they be able to install it and keep the power output the same?? i really know nothing about wiring stereos... like does the power for our speakers come from the head unit? if i change it will there be a difference? help? lol
Do you have the S&S package?
If yes, the new head unit will have to run an adaptor (the soundgate MITSRCVR for ex.) from its lineouts to the inputs of the amp underneath the driver seat.
If no, then the factory head unit drives your speakers. The installer will just use a new harness/harness adaptor to run the new head unit to the existing speakers.
Be careful when choosing an aftermarket receiver with factory speakers (especially non S&S)...any aftermarket head unit is vastly more powerful than the factory one, and can easily damage weaker factory speakers.

I thought about redoing my system.. i have the sub and amp and everything, but i'm just too lazy, and plus i don't think the stock S&S package is that bad. I kinda like being able to hear myself talk with the sub on, unlike my old car... even with the volume at 1 the sub was deafening..

They may cost a little more than most places, but not much, and it's certainly worth it when you start adding in $10 for this harness and $20 for this mounting kit, etc.

If you find a way to fry a head unit (unlikely) when installing, they'll send you a new one. They'll include, for free, all the parts necessary to connect the stereo you buy to the car you have, without question. You won't have to buy any extra harnesses or mounting hardware or anything - they'll just include it. They even send illustrated instructions on how to disassemble/assemble everything in your car.
