Smile Got my Gtech Pro performance meter.

Beware: Long post ahead. Ye have been warned!

If you aren't familiar with the product check out this site: http://www.gtechpro.com/

Basically, it plugs into your cigarette lighter and uses an accelerometer to measure and calculate all kinds of things such as: 0-60mph, 60', 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, horsepower and torque. The first four measurements are all really good. The gtech picks up the start of the run and times it out almost perfectly.

As is described by this article: http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/ian.crocker/g-tech.html , the HP and torque is measured net of all losses such as aerodynamic and inertail losses. This means that the numbers will be even less than a dyno run, but can still give you a good idea of what your car is really putting down to the road. Also, you can compensate for these losses using a little math (described in the above article).

So anyway, here are my results:

0-60 etc. : I SUCK !! I need a LOT more practice at launching. all of my 60' times were about 3.1 seconds and my best 0-60 was 8.32 seconds. Ah well, at least I can blame this on the fact that this is my first stick.

HP: I did 7 runs back to back behind an abandoned parking lot (driving like a maniac on the street is bad.... mmmmkay?) I got 129 for a low and 136 for a high, which is a pretty good group. So, I applied some of the above mentioned calculations and found that that averages out to what would be 146 at the wheels and 172 at the crank. So not to bad, for a piggyback and an SRI. Well, mainly just the piggyback. I highly doubt that the SRI is giving all that much when it comes down to brass tacks (sounds real nice though ). Also my car has never been weighed (a variable you need to enter yourself. I think i put in 3200 pounds) so that could change the results a little. But overall im pleased with my new ability to monitor this.

So anyway, has anyone else used on of these? I would like to hear what you thought about it.

If nothing else I now know that I probably shouldnt go to the track and embarass myself before i get some practice in .

for the weight put in the weight of the car and yourself. I heard of a guy on here going to a truck station to get the weight of the car. Its a good idea and probably free.

According to manufacturers spec, the RA weighs in at 2840lbs. That's w/o the S&S package (if you have it) or any other possible add-ons to the car, but there's a good baseline for ya.

I've bought a gtech procomp myself, i have an 04 ralliart with sun and sound, it's weight was 2650 empty. The only thing the weight does with it is the hp and tq numbers. the rest of the gtech is using just the accelorometer data. If you have the gtech that you can plug into your computer then you can upgrade it to the new RR model, it ad's the roadrace software. I just recently got it adjusted completely right it took a few days to learn the settings and how they effect you numbers bt once you figure all that out it's pretty basic.
