Hmm

Well my automatic trans is acting slightley weird. Since it has been bad weather lately, I never accelerate more than normally (VERY slowly lol).
Well it shifts fine, 1-2, 2-3. But when it goes into 4th (usually around 50KPH or 35MPH). It feels like the thing "loses" it's hold on the gears for a split second. It is NOT slipping, but it feels and sounds like it wants to. Before it would always go vrooooooom, roooooom when it shifted. Now it goes a bit like vroooooooom, ooom, rooooom.
The engine just gets a slight "blip" in there before 4th is engaged. I'm going to drive it a bit more to see. I'm sure it's nothing, but it hasn't made this sound the first 7000kilometers. I'm tempted to only use "3" around the city to avoid overdrive in streetlight traffic. It always just barely gets into 4th when I have to slow down again. In 3rd at 50KPH the revs are around 2200, in 4th they are about 1500. I'm sure I won't notice much of a decline in MPG if I used 3 around the city.

Yeah I have been curious to about this same matter. On a similar note, can we drive in "2" as like a first gear, and then shift up to "3" like a second gear and "D" like a 3rd gear? Or does it not work this way? Cuz I tried it on the way home from work last night and when I shifted from 2 to 3 it was all good but from 3 to D the rpm powerband went insane and like redlined three times on its own...I dont know it was really wierd. Ill probabley never do it again. But yeah I wonder if we could drive around in 3 to get a little more get up and go? Of course just city driving. But that's a good thought.

We can have some control over the shifts with the shifter. When it is in 1, the transmission will STAY in 1st gear until you move the shifter to 2, 3 or D. In 2, it will start off in 1st gear, then shift into 2nd and will STAY in 2nd gear until you move the shifter to 3 or D. In 3, it will start in 1st, shift to 2nd and shift to 3rd like normally, but it will stay in 3 until you move the shift to D. In D, of course all gears are available. Now i'm not sure how you were accelerating when you shifted to 4th (D) but it isn't the best thing to go WOT hard and then close the throttle completely to let the transmission shift. At WOT, the PCM is expecting and getting ready to shift the transmission for a WOT shift. You close the throttle ALL the way and the engine is no longer putting any pressure on the gears/clutches/bands. The transmission gets a bit confused and either shifts really hard or shifts really soft (kind of goes into neutral for a bit until the next gear is engaged)
If you are accelerating at WOT with any transmission, DON'T let off the gas all the way if you want it to shift, just release some pressure on the gas and once it shifts, let it off more. Computer controlled transmissions are more vulnerable to getting confused in this way than TV cable or vacuum controlled transmissions. Many Chrysler 4 speed computer controlled transmissions have been ruined by doing just that (WOT and then closing the throttle for a shift.) Of course those transmissions are junk anyway.
As for my problem, I will wait and see since i'm accelerating normally and it happens.

Allright, cool, good info. See im a newb at the hole car scene and I didn't even know that when you leave it in 3 the highest gear possible is 3rd. BTW, what is WOT?

WOT stands for wide open throttle, pedal to the floor etc.
