Question about Axelback Exhaust + Downpipe

I've heard so many good things about the RRM Downpipe as well as the RRM Axelback exhaust (sound wise). I'm thinking about buying both in the near future. My question is for those who own and have installed both the downpipe and the exhaust. I can only imagine that both of these parts would produce a quite impressive sound... am I right? My worry is that the sound will be TOO loud (yes there is such a thing). I don't want to draw TOO much attention where a cop would notice the downpipe and proceed to give me noise violation tickets, etc.

Also... I'm sure this has been asked thousands of times before but just for the record, the downpipe is illegal right? If so, how obvious is it (sound wise) that you have an illegal downpipe?

Thanks in advance,
Travis

uhhh an axle back and a downpipe is like squeeze a tube of thawed cookie dough...think about it, save up and buy a catback and downpipe.

I see what you're saying... I've seen sig's where people say they have the axel back and the downpipe. But yeah, I'd rather go with the catback anyway... might as well get some performance out of it...

But regardless of type of exhaust... fartcan, axelback, catback, whatever... will the noise be too much?

I dissagree... You don't need a cat-back! Our piping is just fine. A good muffler, like the Magnaflow + downpipe is a killer setup. It will be LOUD, and in my opinion too loud. Add a resonator to quiet it down if you want, I did. You will loose a couple of ponnies doing so, but worth it IMO.

I guess my main question is... will the combination be so loud that I could get a ticket for it? Also... is it too much for everyday driving? How's the noise at idle and low speeds?

thanks

There was a video on here somewhere of a guy with the downpipe and a rs muffler and it was loud as hell. Sounded like a street bike.

Sounded like a typical obnoxious Honda. Who makes a good quiet exhaust?

^^^ Hahaha! That typical Honda noise you hear is the result of a $40 muffler also known as a fartcan (sounds like someone farting in a coffee can) being slapped on a car with 110 HP. With the Honda, the exhaust will be its annoying self even when cruising at 20 MPH. You can definately tell the difference between a catback and just a muffler. The better the engine, the nicer it sounds as well.

In other words... never.... ever compare a RA to a Honda!

The only reason ANY exhaust sounds bad is because it is not properly tuned. Those nasty setups that you hear on the street are a result of kids going to a shop, getting cheap pipe bent without a resonator, and then popping a cheap 'straight-thru' muffler on the end of it.

Resonators are the key to a good sounding exhaust. The only way you can get away with not resonating an exhaust is if you have the right kind of motor. Case in point: V8's, WRX's boxer motor, etc....

The reason people think of Hondas when they think cheap exhaust is simply due to the fact that there are more 'tuned' hondas out there than any other make. Our car would sound just as bad with cheap intermediate pipe and no resonator.

At idle it's fine. Below 3,000rpm it's fine. Any other time, TOO LOUD. But like a previous post said, get the downpipe and axle-back then weld on a good resonator.

Herez what I tried:

1. Downpipe w/stock exhaust = sounded like total CRAP!
2. Downpipe w/RRM axle back = too damn LOUD!
3. #2 + 24" Magnaflow resonator = perfect and MEAN!!!

Thanks for all the info... How much does a resonator cost? Also, how would you describe this sound? Is it ricey? Any deep pitch to it at all? Again... I don't want the unwanted attention! However I also dont want to lose any power from the resonator.
