question regarding trading car in...

Quick question for whoever knows the answer....I currently own a 2004 Lancer Ralliart, and have made around ten payments on the car...that leaves 62 more payments until its all paid for. Anyway, I am in a position where I will most likely be getting a new job and making a whole lot more money, and seeing that the evo is my dream car, I want to trade the RA in and buy an Evo 8. My question is, how do they handle this? I know i cant just trade it in, cuz it isn't even fully paid for. Do they just appraise it, and give me what its worth, and then if i owe miore than its worth, I pay the rest? I definitely couldn't afford both payments on an RA and an Evo. Would most everyone on here get rid of the RA, or would you guys pay off the RA as fast as fast as possible, then go for the Evo?

let me know..thanks!

Let's say you owe $15,000 on the car, but the will only give you $10,000. That means you owe $5000.

They can add that $5000, onto your new loan.

You're gonna lose your *** when you trade a car in after less than a year. It all depends on how bad they want to screw you over when you go for a trade. Now, if you go in there and be a little agressive...it might be a different story. If you walk in and tell them you want to trade it in for an Evo, but they have to work with you on the trade-in value...they might work with you on it. They HATE it when you do this, but keep negotiating with them, have a monthly payment in your mind, and sit there ALL DAY until they give it to you. If they say "that's the best we can do," tell them you have to think about it and go to walk out saying you're gonna check out the Subaru dealership first. 9 out of 10 times they'll stop you from leaving. Good luck!

You'll get screwed on the trade-in. If you really want an Evo, probably the best thing to do is to pay off the car until the balance on your loan is about the same as the car's value, then sell it and have the buyer take over payments.

I'm sorry to say your car is only worth about $11,000. But you do qualify for a 500 dollar loyalty rebate. so even if you go for an RS your cost will be around $35,000

72 payments, wow

is that 72 months to pay on a 18G car. i didnt know they did that. yes you will lose your a$$ on that deal. dealers love it when people finance that long. heck, get that evo and dont tell anybody what your payments are, ha ha.

Yeah I think saving a few bucks and giving us all a ride with a Turbo RA sounds like the better plan.

the biggest problem with that is the 72 month program. Your getting raped on interest right now and its hardly doing anything for your payment. That happened with me and a mustang I bought in 01. I ended up keeping it and traded it in for my RA a month ago.
