Looking for some advice
Looking for some advice
I bought a ralliart in january of this year and I am looking for some input on mods. I will start by saying I am not going to turbo the car or put on the RRM piggy back ecu, I don't want to mess with the warranty. That pretty much leaves me with suspension mods and a CAI. First off could anybody tell me if they have the RRM axle back exhaust and how do they like it. What CAI intakes do any of you have and what do you recomend. I think the suspension on the car is great, I am looking at only going with the RRM rear swaybar. Any input would be great. Thanks.
First off, is your car auto or manual as this will effect whether you can use a CAI. If its manual both the Injen or RRM and the pending AEM ones will all yield about the same as far as gains go.
I don't have the RRM axle back but have heard great things about them. Take a look on RRM's site for more info. Buy doing they're CAI, Axle back, and Downpipe you will probably be very satisfied w/ your engine performance.
For handling, the first thing you should do is the rear sway (perche's are needed ONLY if you are gonna do track or auto x stuff) then springs (coilovers if you have the extra money). I have a set of Tien's myself and I love them. They DO firm the ride up a little but not to much. If you aren't going to do new wheels then I would upgrade the ****ty stock rubber as this will help as well.
Transmission - Do the clutch line for sure....a few people have done it and said it really helps. There are a few companies now that make short shifters. I went w/ the 30% WORKS Short throw (I haven't installed it yet...sorry). But I haven't heard anything bad about any of the companies that make them (I've been told that all the evo ones should work w/ our car). And lastly, some bushings....underhood will tighten up a bit and some shifter base will also help. Obviously, if you don't have a manual you don't have to worry about that...heh.
Hope this points you in the right direction.

i have the rrm axleback, CAI, and the downpipe...get those 3 things if you can and your gunna be lovin it...also if you do the downpipe make sure you jimmy rig it like they do on the how-to forums =D..i loved how the axelback sounded when i first put it on..the CAI is awesome...and same with the downpipe
Warranty= no messing with federal mandated equipment.... Downpipe eliminates cat... In reality taking off a perfectly good cat and driving on the street is a felony! Now how you gonna explain to that big guy in the corner (eying you like a piece of KFC), that your in for taking your catalytic converter off of your RA? I haven't heard of anyone locally going to jail for it but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened in CA!!!

YES its illegal to remove safety/emmisions device's, however, as stated on the RRM website...its a "race" downpipe NOT MEANT FOR THE STREET. If you choose to use it on the street then thats your deal. And there IS NO LEGAL PRECIDENT of anyone goin' to jail for removing such items - I checked!. All that can happen is you get a fine and they ORDER you to remove said item from your car. Worst case is that they tow your car and make you pay for a state controlled shop to take it off and you pay for it and the tow and the parts.
This has all been covered several times in many other threads. If you are gonna post anything at least try and get your facts straight.

if your worried about warranty then a CAI is probably out of the question. if your engine gets hydrolock or something the dealer aint gonna do anything for u. other mods that u could do are rrm axel back exhuast. i have this and it sounds nice and deep, but u won't get much performance out of it. u can also do suspension stuff to. even though u said u don't want the piggyback it is probably your best bet for getting power w/ o mesing w/ the warranty. since it sits behind your glove box in your car, no one is gonna see it unless they are looking at the ecu. they will spot a CAI or a downpipe a lot easier and the piggyback is also easier to uninstall.

If you get the piggy back ECU and you need to take your car in for warranty service for something like fuel injectors/pump/anything in the emmisions system and your screwed. They CAN tell. All they need to do is plug in they're little computer and that tells them EVERYTHING. And while a Piggyback is pretty easy to install, unless ROCK release's the quick connect harness you need to splice wires which means even if you take it out it obviously WON'T look factory. And yes...they would check. SOOO many people try and fraud non-warranty items.

Hey man, I'm not flamming ya....I'm sorry if it came off that way. It just sounded like you were providing some wrong info or perhaps not the whole story. So I thought i'd clarify anything that maybe came off at first read (i'm at work too man...so I may have just misread some stuff) as incorrect.
Once again, sorry if it came off as me trying to flame you.

Wrong most dealerships don't care about things like CAI/Exhaust just don't go in expecting a new engine when you hydrolock.
