Mivec disappeared

Sounds more like a fuel problem. Even if the mivec stopped working, the car wouldn't just run right out of power right at 3500RPM. Remember the valves are still opening and closing fine, without mivec's adjustment. Look into the fuel and ignition systems first. An engine at 4000rpm needs a lot more fuel than one at 2000rpm. Ditto with the spark (high revs=the need for a hotter, more powerful spark).
Even if the stealership says "it's fine blah blah blah" you'll have it documented that it's had this problem. That is very important in case it happens again, and again, and again.... 2k miles is about the time that mine seemed to have lost a little bit of power too. I wonder if they have a demo mode to sell?!?! Keep us posted on what happens, I'm interested to see if there might be a problem with the system.

That's gotta be the funniest thing i've ever heard... the OZ has electronic timing controlled via the ecu. There are no mechanical springs as in old school distributor systems. In fact there isn't even a distributor on the car. Either the tech was messing with you or he ripped you off for something like a loose wire. Seriously though i'd check into that service as that statement is not true thus far.
I'd have it serviced... just to get a report of the problem like amg_dragon said. Also check simple things like filter, oil, etc. You may have just had a spot of bad gas or water in the tank from condensation. How's the weather were you live? If it's been raining a lot check into a that. A loose cap or damaged cap can lead to that.

It has two coils and two wires... tecnically it does have 4 plug wire sets if you count the plug boot under the two coils.
It is a distributorless system though with duel coils run on a fuzzy logic system.

I've driven it all weekend at it has been fine. No problems at all. I'm going to have them make a note of it and see if it happens again. I will be checking all the wiring also. Thanks for all the help.
CHeck your Coil packs and Get it Documented.. ANd DONT BEAT ON IT.I had this issue with my camaro and it ended up costing me 2k in Repairs and a new car cause I got tired of dealing with it.Just get it checked out and dont spend more than a year dealing with this problem like I did.
