Horn Replacement

I know this is kinda silly, but is there a way to replace the car horn? And if so how hard is it and how would you go about getting a different horn?

Reason I'm asking is because the horn sounds kinds wimpy. Just curious, TIA.

I've wondered that, too. People at school have had like horn contests at lunch and I'm always the wimpiest one.

Yeah, it can be done. Not too difficult, either. Usually, it's just a case of removing the old ones and installing new ones. However, if you're going for ****ing loud, you may have to run power wire, too. PIAA makes some really really loud ones, I think.

I'd love to have a set of 130db horns.

It's INCREDIBLY EASY

Go to a local auto parts store and buy one or order one online.

1) Pop open the hood.
2) Locate the horn (usually located just behind the front bumper).
3) Remove the wired clip that runs from the horn.
4) Unbolt the horn.
5) Bolt new horn on.
6) Clip the wires into place.
7) Close hood.
8) Have the pesky neighbor put their head in front of the bumper so you can insure that it works properly!

I think I found a nice selection of horns here if anyone is interested. You can also hear a sample of the horn.

Correct.

Correct, but I'm don't remember if it is wired as two horns (and obviously, I can't run out and check as I drive a different car).

This sounds like too much trouble. Just go get a marine air horn. That'll get some attention.

I would avoid the PIAA kit. I had those and they aren't anything to write home about. IF you have ever heard a 2G DSM horn, late model Galant or Endeavor (they come with FIAMM AM80's stock) then the PIAA just sounds like two of them. Now I have the FIAMM Riviera 3 trumpet kit and it certainly does the trick. ITs wAAAAy loud, so I wouldn't blow it around any cops. IT probably does meet sound dB regulations, but I still don't want the hassle of trying to prove it. It is similar to Italian exotics in sound and it does make people jump. Especially useful when a SUV drifts into your lane.

I'm the same way actually. I think the day I made this thread might have been the third time I used my horn and I've had my car for over a year. It was the first time I actually paid attention to it and I think it was seriously wimpy sounding. I don't mind driving a so called "girl car" but I'd at least like it to have a manly touch.
