check "oil" light at IDLE
Hey,
I know the RA's have a rough Idl. ever since I've been using filled motor mounts, I've been getting alot of vibration througn the steering wheel. Sometimes so bar the dash board vibrates up and down. As of a few days ago I noticed that when I'm at idle and it gets rough, my check OIL light comes on. I'm sure the oil level is fine as I just had it changed 2 weeks ago. But I did change to 10W30 from 5W20.
Does anyone know what would cause this light? is there a sensor that detects vibration? Its only at idle and there is no CEL.
any ideas?

did you check he oil level? just cause it was changed doesnt mean it was changed right
plug may be loose or something, as well. the pressure is lowest at idle, so it makes sense.
btw, wtf did u use to stiffen up the mounts? ive never felt ANYTHING in the cabin, let alone the wheel shaking! are you sure ur allignment isnt shot or something?

My front mount is filled with 80 shore 2 part urethane. Its much stiffer than window weld. You're right, I have yet to check the oil level, But I will be doing so shortly.
any other ideas?

off topic but i just made a set w/ 94 A
mc master's right?
Yup, i second checking the oil level. And dont do what a lot of morons do and either 1)check it on an incline or 2)check it the second you turn off the car (give it at least half an hour on LEVEL GROUND to check it)

I did check the oil and it seems fine. The car was still warm, it was sitting for about 45 mins, but the temp outside was near 100. I'll check it in the morning after it sits all night. A mechanic I know says that oil pressure sensors are resistors and that they have a low and a high pressure resistor. He said that my pressure resistor might have gone bad. Resistors are about 15 bucks. Its only when it idles at 500 rpm and its not all the time.

thats when the light comes on. THe IDle is very rough on this car. It could be a touch over 500, maybe like 600, but nevertheless, the OIL light still comes on. Last night when the engine was cold I checked the OIL. Its perfect, not too low not too high. I'll try switching to my stock motor mount and we'll see what this does. IF it does not work, its going to the shop.
hey, I just got a ralliart a little over a week ago and I noticed that mine is doing it too. I figured that the idle may be slightly lower than intended or something with the sensor or low oil. mine seems to idle low too and the light goes off as soon as the rpm climbs even a very small amount. I tried to check the oil but it was too dark and I couldnt' see the dipstick so I will do it tommarow.
Solid motor mounts here also (RRM's), I get a bit of vibration at idle but nothing like what you are describing. Good luck man, if your oils fine, maybe even consider taking it in to the dealership?
