True....not as "tunable" as a DOHC, as 1 cam handles both intake and exhaust cycles, instead of 1 cam for intake and 1 for exhaust like a DOHC has. But you can still alter a SOHC engine's performance by changing the cam profile.
But the way it sounds with the RA engine, this may be difficult to achieve.

BTW - I am by no means an engineer...I just know enough to be dangerous!
I'm leaving my cam alone. No way I would want to be the guinea pig on this one. God bless whoever decides to be!

Do you know how it turned out? Is it performing like he expected? Is the car still streetable?

I mean, if he got the recipe down, why couldn't he have it replicated and sell them to whoever is interested? I see no need for anyone else to risk their cars over this if it has already been done and it works in a satisfactory way... what do you think guys?

^^ according to him is not performing as expected but in the near future he'll make another one w/ new specs.... the problem he encountered was that that the intake valve on piston #2 remained partially open, he put the stock one back, ill keep you posted on this one....

Messing with cams definitely has its pros and cons.

Pros - Good gain in upper end usually

Cons- as stated before, crap gas mileage, rough idle, have to rev up to 4000 just to move

After I put stage 2 crane cams in my old eclipse, I HATED the car. (Note, i ported and polished my intake manifold, had a greddy catback and greddy header) In order for me to get up to decent cruising speeds, I would have to really hit it. Yes they do give you much better gains up top but you lose a NOTICEABLE amount down low.

Would be good for a tracked only car, not daily driven. Especailly if you have to rev to 4000 to get going thats

Thanks for all the input guys. I think cams are out for me. I was uneasy about it and you guys drove it home. I like my idle the way it is. Instead, I've opted to go with suspension parts for my car. Should have a better rear sway soon.
