Painting rotors

Anyone paint their rotors where they rust on the sides (See pic)? I did a search and got kind of conflicting info as to weather it would last or not. Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. I painted my calipers black but the rust on the hat and sides of the rotors make the whole mess still look shotty.

I'm surprised yours aren't coated with whatever's on mine. You're in the Rust Belt, too. I drove my car all winter, and my rotors still look like new.

I just sanded all the rust down cleaned up. And used the dealership ( were I bought my car) plastic tag cut to fit around and shot it. I followed the spray witha heat gun and heated the rotors just a bit before I shot it. Any more help let me know. I can take pics if you'd like.

I used the dupont caliper paint. I had my car on jack stands doing some work and I figured I'd use the left over paint. I started the car and put it in 1st. THe wheels were off to I took the wire brush and sand paper to the moving rotor and cleaned all the rust, then cleaned with parts cleaner and painted the caliper paint while the rotors were moving. I used a brush and it was super easy and it did a proffessional job too. Give it a try.

I painted mine with Dupli-color caliper paint but seem to have to redo them about once a year.

I just used some Dupli-color Caliper paint from Pep-boys in a rattle can. O'Reilly Auto Parts has a brush on ceramic caliper paint for like $15. It looks pretty similar to that expensive G2 paint.

I used the Dupli-Color ceramic paint kit last year... and it still flaked on me! I sanded the things down, used the brake dust cleaner... it still didn't stay on!

Man these calipers are hard to paint!!! Good luck on the rotors...

BTW: My rotors are fine... but I mounted steelies for the winter though. So they where protected from the worst of the salt and road grime.

That's good to know because I was about to buy some to try out. The only thing that concerned me was that it was only rated to around 500 something degrees.

I don't think it's the heat that causes the flaking though... or it would have flaked in the first weeks. Instead, it did during the winter, after being on the car for over 6 months...

It really must be cheap paint then if it will hold up for 6 months then flake off. That's probably why it cost so much less than G2.
