Well, i wasnt expecting this storm to do much to me in miami.....heck i wasnt even expecting it to hit me. Next thing I knew, i had a nice 90 min break from the storm when I was in the eye! It was only a catagory 1 when it hit here (i feel bad for New Orlands! if u live there, get the f*uck out now!), but it did worse than Frances did last year (it was a cat 3, and I was also in her eye).
Anyway, a flying branch (im guessing) hit my rear passanger side pillar pretty bad and pit a nice 1/2" deep dent in it and cause the paint to chip off around it. Its near the bottom of the pillar, where it widens out around the 1/4 pannel. Can this piece be taken off to be repaired, or, since its part of the frame, is it a cut and weld job? i think my deductable is $250. worth taking to the insurance company, or will the repair cost as much as the deductable?
I JUST got my power back after 3.5 days of hot florida sun and no AC, hot water, light, refridgeration, etc.....so i'll get pics later. but im exhausted and have a **** load of work to do to get back on my feet. thanks for any advice!

the sucks bro. hurricanes were part of the reason i moved from florida. went through two of them last year, and lost power for 9 days at one point. totally miserable. looks like new orleans is finally going under.
about your car, yeah, i don't know. consider this a free bump. :d

I would imagine that the ext body panel (part of the roofline too?) can be replaced without welding, but that depends, like everyone has suggested, upon the severity of the damage. Good luck, and I agree, it does look like New Orleans is going under water. New Atlantis?
what a bad luck my friend.Last year i went thru a a hurricane that passed over Puerto Rico driving on the highway to my job , and it was terrible , the wind made me go from side to side of the road(luckily i was the only one on the street) and the branches were flying everywhere and a couples of them hit my car but made only minor scratches to the paint that were gone on the next wax .

i can def still drive it. its not like a tree fell on it or anything. just some flying branch or something minor. its really nothing more than a dent. thats why im asking if its worth the deductable or not. ill get a pic tomorrow. but again, it IS really minor so dont be holding out for images of major carnage and destruction or anything. dispite my small losses, i consider myself fortunate
I would say if it is less than a half inch deep it will be cosmetic and could probably be able to be fixed with a dent puller and some good body work. You should be able to tell by looking at it if it bent the pillar or something. It would have to be some helluva branch to bend/dent a support pillar

i know what u mean , lost of power.... i was living in quebec in 1998 when the ice storm hit...... we lost power for nearly 2 weeks ....(imagine at -27 degrees , with no heating and no power)...... and it looked like this everywhere .... no question to go anywhere with the car..... oh yeah it was that bad that at some place it had 100 mm of ice on trees and everything ..... it made trees fell down and 4 power lines and transformer with the pole just fell down in the street in front of the house (let me tell you , a transformer that explode does a big KABOOM sound and everything is blue everywhere for a little while) , anyways it looked like this :
