2nd gear is pissing me off

Hey guys, i'm new to these forums and i own a 2005 Silver Metallic Ralliart 5-speed.
It's pretty new with about 1700 miles on it. A couple of days ago for some reason when i shift into 2nd gear i don't really get the feeling of the torque?? and sometimes i do. It's wierd, i did some research and found out it has to do with the mesh in the tranny or something!??! i dont know much about this kinda stuff but any help would be appreciated and i am also looking to buy a short shifter and the shift linkage bushings, would this help the problem at all? If not, do you guys think the dealer would help or just gimme some bs about how its my fault, i haven't been power shifting or anything, i've been driving the car normally and shifting at 3000 rpm and sometimes less since it takes some time to actually break into the engine.

I don't know about your shifting problem. I say take it in to have it checked out. I know of one place for short shifters. twmperformance.com. Its the same as an evo.

did you install the clutchline yourself? or did you have a shop do it? how much/hard was it?

I would say let the dealership check on it, it should be covered in your warranty. If they refuse to do anything, first try out bushings (HUGE improvement) and then short-shifter if you want. If the problem is still there replace the bushings with stocks and take in again to the dealer. Can you further explain the feeling in 2nd? Is it like it doesnt fully engage or does it just feel really wimpy... and in what RPM range does this happen.

When you're shifting into second gear at 3000rpm, you're not yet in our engine's power band, which doesn't start until near 4000rpm. That could be why it feels a bit weak.

Also, all the mods listed above will greatly improve shift feel, but I don't think that's what you were complaining about.

You don't feel the torque where? In the shifter?
Do you mean sometimes the shifter just slides into gear without that "notchy" feeling? If that's what you mean, it's normal. Sometimes if you shift just at the right RPM, the shifter will just slip right into 2nd without any stiff feeling in the shifter.

hey guys, all these prompt responses! wow! thanks guys, it's kinda hard to explain the feeling of the shifter, it happens only sometimes by the way. I think im gnna get the bushings and short shifter and probably the ss clutchline that you guys suggested, i researched about the "notchy" feeling and know that it's normal but thanks anyway guys i really appreciate the help. I had another question about the installation of the clutchline. Would it be possible for me to do it at home? How difficult would it be?
I found out how to do the short shifter and bushings.
Thanks guys

**** i forgot to ask u guys one more question about a piggyback ecu. I read that it needs Premium gas and i am going to college right now and i cant really afford premium gas alll the time but on occasions its ok. So i was wondering if the piggyback needs premium gas to work to its full potential? for daily driver can i use regular gas? how much power would i get if i use regular gas compared to premium?
Thanks again

The piggyback doesn't require premium for power reasons, it requires the higher octane to avoid detonation (when the air/fuel mixture ignites before it's supposed to). Running a lower octane with the piggyback risks damage to your engine.

Ralli04art - Your problem is caused by excess engine movement. Fill your front and rear engine mounts to fix your problem.

I agree with Otter... you can do all this to improve your shifter's feel.. but that doesn't effect the power... you're just not in the power band... shifting from first at 3000 you're pretty close to stalling out your engine... I use mivec to tell when to shift... when I hear the little psss noise I shift... I hear it through first and second then after that your moving and you can shift when you want... sometime I do that and jump straight to 5th...
