I think that the big reasons for them not to make the new Galant outside of North-america is that it would never sell in Europe. Mitsubishi is focusing real hard on establishing a solid customer base over there. The Galant could never compete in the same class as the Peugeot 407 or Audi A4... they'd need to design a whole new car anyway. Only the name would remain, just like the Accord...

Well not quite. This is getting off-topic, but they *do* export the Galant to other European countries like Russia and China - I blanket stated it wrong earlier. The Endeavor and Eclipse are just ours right now. So far the Galant has been doing pretty well overseas, maybe it will eventually trickle into mainstream Europe. But for Japan, I doubt it. I think their pride wouldn't allow them to sell an American designed and built Galant. The nameplate is one of Mitsubishi's oldest. Austrailia took our Galant design and modified it for their market into the "380" as a replacement for the Magna/Verada (Diamante). So the car is not just an American phenom.
Here are some links to the Grunder, Taiwan Galant:

Here is a link to the 380. Nice grille, Maybe we'll get it next year for the 9Gb Galant, just in time for the Ralliart version:

I knew about China (I didn't know about Russia though) but I don't consider it to be part of Europe of course...
I knew about the 380, but I never saw a picture of it... I think it looks way better! I never liked how the domestic Galant looked... it looks like a GM product (and coming from me, that's not a compliment).

It sure isn't. For some reason I took Europe to mean anywhere outside of the U.S. I don't know why the car could not exist in the same market as an Audi or Peugeuot, the old car is there now, but I do think our Galant is too big for Europe. But then again, I thought it was too big for Taiwan and Russia. Considering what they can do with the interior and features when looking at that Grunder, I don't doubt they could cook up something competitive if the decide to go upmarket, or keep it cheap for everyday families like ours. But then again, the point is probably moot. They already have a new platform ready that they codeveloped with DCX. Our Galant will go to it in 2009. Maybe there are short and long wheelbase versions of it so we can still have our "big body" Galant and Europe and Japan can have their more agile, lean versions.

Maybe your right... they could probably produce a car that would be competitive against european cars. I was thinking of the existing Galant, the one their selling over here though. It's not like the Lancer where they can just export it wherever they like and it will sell. They would have to come up with a completely different car if they wanted to sell a car named Galant (or a car in that category at least). Maybe that 380 VRX is a much better candidate... I was told it has good handling and the overall package seems much more in par with anything wealthy europeans would drive.
Don't forget that middle class people drive compact cars in europe (well, at least I have a good knowledge of the way things are in France)... and rich folks drive bigger cars like the A4, 3 series and 407. Few middle class people are able to shell out the money to get a bigger car than a compact, pay the higher insurance premium (it's killing them over there) and pay a bit more for gas (well, diesel in most cases)...

Anyway, back on topic...
Do we all agree that the myth of the US made Lancer is busted then? It seems to be so... nobody has come forward with facts that would prove otherwise.
I wonder where the alternate downpipe comes into play though... if all RAs were made in Japan, couldn't they have use only one DP design???

Unless they got some from an alternate vendor for a discount to "try it out". My company gets all kinds of crazy crap like that coming through the lines to demo for a new customer. We call them "qualifying" orders. If the customer like the slices, we get more orders from them for that particular silicon product. I think it might also be the 2 different assembly plants mentioned earlier if they continue to maintain 2 different DP's.
That was a movie that swarmed the internet acouple years ago..cups, teeshirts..you name it

It's a cheat code for a game called Empire Earth, and now that you mention it my brother was the one that pointed it out as being ironical (his word).
Sorry about the off topic
On topic- I think GP is right, and I also think he works for Mitsu.

'All your base are belong to us' was a line from an old japanese video game that had a terrible English translation job. Tons of stuff on the net about it, typical 80's 90's gaming nostalgia stuff.

My response to your question is, I think so!

They messed-up and put the steering wheel on the wrong side though!
