If you have the money to go either way, I'd advise the turbo RA setup. The RA is a much better platform to build from in my opinion....and it's not a VW.

This should equate to better overall quality then other locations where it could have been assembled.

I think so too. While the A3 is made in Germany, the new Jetta is still made in Mexico. I'm waiting to find out where the GTI is made.

I'd need new rims/tires (17x7.5s), and probably an LSD. I got my car for $15k. Turbo, rims/tires, and LSD probably add up to ~$8k, a voided warranty, and a clutch that would need to be replaced. Am I wrong with my thinking?

not tryin to be mean..but for me ..VW's are crap if u ask me.. thast my opinion.. expensive cars..and i dont think its worth it..the only good one is the AWD r32.. but for that money id rather get an evo.. so what im tryin to say..if ur gona let go of the RA.. look around.. alot of options around there for the same price range.. VW's are heavy.. and they arent that fast.. yeah they look nice.. but for that price for a fwd car.. id rather get a wrx or a used evo rs.. i just saw a gti TURBO get spanked by an NA type S..lol just imagine how inefficient the car is..lol so if i wer u..the vw isnt worth it.. look around.. alota nicer faster cars in the market.. anyways.. but if u like it..its ur money and happiness.. do wut u please.. so u wont regret it.. goodluck! hope u make the right decision thatll make u happy..peace! just my 2 cents

I would never ever buy a Volkswagen again, they are overpriced and reliability sucks at the moment.

But if the price and reliability dosent bothers you,go for it.

The old 1.8Ts weren't that fast stock, but they have huge torque and are easily chippable for big gains. They're not really about *****-out boy racer speed. The new ones are suposed to be completely different. The new platform and suspension are supposed to be way, way better, even with the extra weight.

And to be fair, an RSX-s with minor mods can even give an Evo a run for it's money from a roll.

I wouldn't get a VW that was made in Mexico. I'd get a German made one.

I used to have a 2000 Eclipse GT (sportronic). I got the RA as a "tweener" to learn how to drive stick before the Evo X comes out. That was the plan... A stock 200hp/200lb-ft A3 does 0-60mph in 6.1s. I think that chipping it to 260hp/300lb-ft should be fast "enough" to keep me happy. And interior wise, it's way nicer than the Evo/STi. Much more luxurious.

All depends on what you're looking for in a car, I suppose. If you want to have a relatively rare car that turns a lot of heads, go for the turbo RA. If you want a relatively rare car that turns a lot of heads, go for the A3.... Hell, sounds like you can't lose.

Of course we here will probably be biased to the Mitsu camp, but as long as the VW/Audi can overcome its technical issues...it could be a great car.

I like the Audi, but am voting for the RA. Wait to do the high HP mods until your warranty is worn out and you have it paid for. Then you can buy a luxury car to cruise around in and have your fun car. That's my plan anyway, but I want NA all the way.

wow that GTI is *** ugly, sorry. I would stick with the RA and boost it and be original, or save your pennies.

What would it take to get the RA to get 6.1s 0-60mph acceleration times?

GTI auto is lighter than an auto RA.
Comparing the auto ra and GTI auto, the GTI walks all over it. I say get the new GTI, but the NEWEST GTI coming out is pretty overpriced, like 5 grand more than what my GTI cost.
