Exclamation My RA is on the shelf for now.

Well earlier tonight on my way home from work I leaned down to pick up my cd case as i turned the corner there were 2 kids that came jutting out on some bikes and off of instinct i swerved and missed the kids. But unfortunately i hit a curb pretty hard as i tried to avoid them and get back on the road. After i hit the curb my car stalled and i started it back up and kept driving. I noticed that A) my alignment was way off. B) my "service engine soon" light was on. C) it feels as if one if not both of my right side rims are bent or something. and D) my right front end is squeeking on bumps. Ok and this really sucks because i just spent $500 on new toyo proxes. and i was supposed to be driving to reno and LA this weekend. And now i have essentially tomorrow to figure sumthing out and get it checked out and see if there is anything i can do. I doubt it, but there is hope. I just dont wanna have to spend this money. So if anyone has any advice at all on what to do please help me out here. Even if anyone has any stock rims they wanna sell let me know. I am lost on options right now. Cmon guys anything... This sucks big time!

Ouch! I was in a similar fix years ago, except the hit to the kerb banged the rim pretty hard and killed it. Same deal, allignment was out and and it cost more $$ than I really had at the time. I was dodging a car whose driver wasn't paying attention, reading a map or something- if he/she even noticed me he/she didn't care, just kept going.
That Holden Camira went through hell over the years.

You can claim that on insurance. Pay the deductable, and deal with a bit higher rates, but it'll get fixed.

Yeah that would suck, but why you were digging for cd's while taking a turn?

Here's a tip: change cd's while at a redlight or parked.

Ok while we all feel your pain here's something to check and hopefully get you back on the road. First you can check your inner and outer tie rods, they bend WAY too easy on the RA when faced with immobile objects (better them than the frame though). You also need to check to see if any other parts like the strut or control arms got bent when it happened. You haven't said what kind of condition your rims are in other than they "feel bent". Trust me, if they're bent, you could see it! It's nothing a standard alignment shop shouldn't be able to figure out. Now here's the bad news, smacking a wall cost me over 800 bucks and about a weeks worth of time getting parts from a dealership..... Yeah and that was just the front, I have no idea what's wrong with the back half of your car. I'll repeat what you should allready know, get to an alignment shop and see what is actually wrong before it turns into a complete nut and bolt restoration (in your head that is). You're going to have to fix it sooner or later and sooner is allways cheaper in the long run, you'll save some tread on those proxes by getting it realigned as soon as possible. Figure around 100 bucks, maybe less, for a complete 4 wheel alignment plus whatever for having your wheel balance checked.
An extreme but true account of bad alignment from one of my friends w/ a 94 Impala SS: BFG KDWS tires before allignment, 6000 miles.... yeah six zero, zero, zero. Change oil and tires at about the same time w/ the tires running 165 each. After 3 alignments and 1 honest alignment, tires are now lasting 28000 miles. Seems that GM installs the shims in upside down from the factory and everyone else (including dealerships) installs them from the bottom not the top, 110K miles on the factory alignment and he bought it w/ 85k... I'll let you do the math on tire expense due to dealerships not doing work they're paid for, repeatedly. He was not a happy camper at all. Do yourself a favor and get a reputable shop to check it out instead of a dealership, the shop has more to lose, the dealership will be there no matter what kind of work they do. Let us all know what turns up with it so we know if it's worth it to swerve or sue the parents for letting their kids run into our front bumpers. j/k..... well maybe not.

sorry to hear that, but i bet your glad to see your rim banged up and not those kids.

on another note my sister has an eclipse and she took out a curb before also . her tire was wobbly and it looked like the camber was off big time , so my brother inlaw damb near change the whole right front end on it and the damb thing was still messed up he couldnt figure out what was wrong with it , later on he replaced the hub and wala the damb thing was fixed. he never suspected it to be the hub cause it it didnt look damage at all but sure enough that was the problem . thats one thing but i dont know why your service engine light is on , unplug your battery plug it back up and see if the light comes back on if it does i
i would first check all the sensors on that side to see if any were damaged. you might get lucky luck if it somthing simple like that

take it to autozone and have them pull the code from the ses. check your suspension components visually to see if anything is different from the other side(bent or broken) check your right from shock to see if it has blown out. you will be able to push the car up and down and watch the spring action. visually inspect you camber and toe compared to the other side. visually inspect your rims.

not to be harsh, but duh. lets hope this is the only time you are on of the "stupid people" we all have to deal with on the road on a regular basis. not trying to hurt your feelings or be rude, but maybe you should consider taking some type of driving classes. No matter what level driver you are every single instructor will teach you to look ahead and always be aware of your surroundings, which also includes leave the radio alone when in motion.

Sorry you have to deal with this, but YOU could have made it a lot worse, or a lot better.

Ok well i got my estimate on what needs to be fixed yesterday. Believe it or not the front suspension is fine, the squeeking went away. But as for the back side.... i need a new rear control arm. Mine was bent pretty significantly. So for the new control arm and install, along with 4 wheel alignment we are looking at $800. I am glad i went to McLeas instead of the stealership. They wanted almost $1500 to do the same work! Then if they are unable to balance out my rims, which we think are not bent just deeply scratched.. then we will throw some other rims on here. I have my options for that if necessary. So ya, its proving to be a costly little accident. Could have definately been worse though. O ya, and my service engine light did go off a day later. Wierd, maybe it just goes on for precautionary reasons when your car gets jolted like that. So i figure $800 isn't going to be too bad, even though in LA (down there for the Mest concert!) this weekend my front tire blew out on the freeway on my durango and my rim is gone now. So i have to throw down some money for a new rim there. I swear someone is out to get me! But yea thanks for the input guys, I will let u know if there are any updates.

DangerousDan and Khobin~ - Yea i messed up, but honestly i live on the outskirts of town and it was like 1am on a thursday night. Usually not many 14 year olds running amuck at those times here. I think i will pass on that driving class dude. I am a 19 year old full time student, working full time. So i wouldn't have time for some class that will tell me things i already know anyways.

Mitsubishimanny - Yea that sounds like a pretty good deal. I am gonna find out what the deal is with my rims and i will get back to ya.

The Rest of You - Thanks for the advice. Keep up the good work.

O and one more thing. I am doing this on my own without insurance. Not worth paying 2g's over 3 years and getting a point on my record.
