injen CAI (about install)
injen CAI (about install)
Finally got my injen CAI woot. Anyways i was looking at the install guide because i plan on doing this near the weekend...
Was wondering:
Is it necessary to remove that 5x5 space where the bumper is?
And do you really need to remove the bumper?
Sorry if these were answered before..
Thanks

yes remove the 5x5 space but please do not remove the bumper its a pain, i didn;t even do that part i put my car on the step and worked with it..... the only thing to be careful with is removing the sensor had mine broken you will relize when you hit the limiter at 4.9K and you have the check engine light on lol
I found that you don't need to remove the bumper, simply jack up the front end and remove the drivers side front tire (if you want). Remove the under carriage plates like if you had to change the fog light. You will need to cut a hole in the plastic under where the battery is. It certainly isn’t very hard doing it this way and I think it is a lot easier then having to remove the front bumper. You have to take the battery out to remove the box, so once you do this and the stock air box you will find you have loads of room to work.
Exactly what snowey1 said, but instead of cutting a hole in the plastic, that piece is basically a divider, I just completely removed it as it was less of a hassle and didn't effect anything. I even drove all winter with the CAI and had no problems and filter was dirty, pipe was clean as day 1.

well you do want to have as much of a divider as possible because youd ont want rocks and dirt hitting your intake cause that will go to your motor. the bumper is fexable you can remove just the corner and pull it a little bit in order to get the pipe in there.

<<< no divider, 13,000 miles, no dirt or rocks in my intake. I don't see how that could happen.
I also didn't need to remove the battery, just disconnect it. Also didn't remove the wheel. Just jacked it up, disconnected the battery, removed the stock airbox and splash guards, swapped the MAF over to the CAI, installed the pipe and filter, tightened everything up, lowered it, started and let idle for about 15 mins., then took it for a drive. No problems.
