It's been quite a ride!

My RA is no more.

Hit sand on an offramp, got lots of air, wound up in the trees. Tough cars though, it started and I drove it back to the road.

I bought a Toyota Tundra 4x4 cause I need to learn to drive slower now.

Just wanted to thank you all for posting so much info here, I learned all I know about these underrated cars from this site. This is the only car I have owned that I was not bored with after a year.

Keep 'em between the lines!

Tim

thats pretty sweet.. I'd love to see some pics. The RA does really well in accidents.. Now if only my insurance company would see that.. They said the crash durability was one of the reasons it was so high.

Ralliarts do well for people in accidents, but the car itself is easily toasted, and parts are really expensive when compared to other cars in the class.

Oh, and...

What lesson would that be? Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation poured sand (like a beach) all down the offramp to cover up the oil a diesel truck dumped all down the offramp. There were no signs posted- no ticket for me- obvious fault of ODOT - but no lawyers will take the case 'cause you can't win by suing the state (takes too long, too expensive, and the state gets to decide on the settlement).

Edited to add: sorry 'bout the pictures- by the time I could get around again the insurance co. had moved the car.

Sorry 'bout the no parts to sell thing- insurance paid off loan completely and I let them keep the car.... the whole thing just breaks my heart!

You cant see the discoloration of the sand on the ground? From what I take, the road is grey concrete, and sand is a dark beige color. And if they had a big sand pool, like a beach you describe, wouldn't you be able to see it?

If it were around the corner then, shouldn't you be slowing down until you see what IS around the corner?

It is the states responsibility that if they CREATE a road hazard, the MUST put up a sign/notice to warn people of the danger. That may not be enough just as a Beware, Wet Floor signs do not absolve a business of liability. They have to MAKE it safe.

There should have been a detour or have the area blocked off and clearly marked.

I will answer you ^ only one more time. I got off work at ten pm, went home to eat and relax a little. I drive 45 miles one way to college through some windy twisty roads, and expected rain the next day so thought I'ld clean and rainex the windows After cleaning and rainexing the windows I took a little drive to blow off the water I throw on the windows instead of polishing the rainex off. This put it at about midnight straight up (it was very very dark-spoken like Elmer Fudd). The exit itself is in a slight left hand curve that rises over the highway passing under it. The start of the exit is like a small peak-you are rising slightly and curving left all the way to were you enter the offramp and then it is a slight dropping curve to the right then back left. You can see traffic, but not the pavement itself until about halfway throug the right hand curve. Slowing down from seventy is not overly fast to enter an offramp, and expecting sand without signs posted would be paranoid.

The police didn't seem to think I was doing anything wrong- why do you k3lv? Have I passed you in the twisties before?

Yes it is the state's responsibility to post signs-ODOT showed back up almost an hour and a half later to tell the troopers and sheriffs they had signs up now. I must have gone down the ramp right after the sand truck, and the troopers first there made sure their flashing lights could be seen on the offramp from the freeway.

well with all due respect, you made a simple post saying you flew it into the trees, and then continued to say that you bought a Toyota so you could learn to drive slower. If that doesnt give you the image of speeding I dont know what does. You didnt post your indepth analysis of what happened, if you did before, I wouldnt of critiscized you. I got nothing against you in the first place. If it were miscommunication on my part then I apologize for what I said.

As stated, got nothing about you bud. There wasn't any need for that comment about passing me in the twisties, I drive as responsible as I can especially where it's dark OR off the offramp where I've seen people get killed cause they take it for granted.

Because you must have doing something wrong to get into an accident.

The same thing happened to me with the ES, except the damage wasn't as bad.
