Thx guys ill try to get a a lesser citation. Anywayz wat is the criteria for a cop to judge a speed? Does he have to be in a certain distance?? Cause he said he's trained to predict speeds using his eyes, i kno of that but what is the criteria ( distance from car?, angle?)

 

Trust me, you won't win with a cop, even if they DON'T show up to court. I've had that happen before.

I dont know how NYC works but in Illinois they have clock you to give you a ticket... unless its insanely fast then its an inexcess of the limit ticket. but if you fight it and the cop does not show the case is thrown out= off the hook. Most police departments consider traffic court as a cops day off so they dont get paid= 99% of the time they wont show....who wants to work and not get paid. You should really take a look at you local laws before you decide to start breaking them. I know the majority of laws from my home town in Illinois and here in el paso/ft bliss. Its gotten me off the hook several times.

 

You don't want to just plead no contest and pay the fine. I did that for my first several speeding tickets because I didn't know any better, and my insurance is FINALLY coming down out of the stratosphere.

Find a competent traffic lawyer, and hire him/her to represent you in court. They will bargain with the court to get your ticket reduced or dropped entirely. My most recent ticket was an 84 in a 55, which was reduced to a faulty speedometer.

What was originally a 6-point moving violation (which would have sent my insurance back through the roof for a few years) became a no-point non-moving violation. The fine stayed about the same, plus a hundred fifty for the lawyer, but it's better to pay once than to pay for the next three years.

 

Dude, be happy he didn't notice that your I.D. was fake, being that you're only 6 yrs old form the shear lack of "spelin" and grammer...

But seriously, you can try to fight it, but when it comes down it, got any proof you weren't doing 55?... No, then your word vs his in court, and who do you think the judge is going to believe?


Umm...why not just catch on the fact that you need to slow the **** down after "several" speeding tickets?

I was in a car that flipped 5 times and i barely made it out alive... doing 140. a week after i got out the hospital i was back out drag racing and street racing like nothing happen. The trick to tickets is to only have nice cops pull you over Got pulled over last week and got my first ticking in about 6 years (before those 6 years, I had 6 tickets... oops.) He clocked me (laser, so my detector didn't go off until it was too late) going 87 in a 70, but only cited me for 75, which equals low fine and no points.

 

I got a ticket for merging 70 in a 70mph zone.. but the cop said connector ramps are only 55mph or some crap.. so he gave me a 75mph ticket in a 70mph zone. (which is supposed to be no points, etc) It still raised my insurance rates quite a bit though. I called my insurance company and they said I was a 'high risk' driver because of that, even though it was no points. I've been arguing with them for months over it and finally its going to be dropped soon, but I still paid a crapload extra in insurance, like over $800 extra for the year. I've shopped around for other insurance, but my current company (Citizens) is the cheapest.

My best bet is to hire a lawyer or try to get a leaner citation ( admit fault tellin the judge that i was doin like 45 mph but not 55 mph) Then ill try to be all personal and stuff and say that im a nursing student and its my duty to provide ppl wit care ( not to harm them). Relate to the officer and blah blah. And tell them i have a clean record, so i might be put off easy. Cause rite now im 4 pts down and out. 2 more and im suspended - cant let that happen. Defensive drivin school here i come

 

What happened to "Inocent untill proven guilty"?? My Advice, find out what the law for NY says about procedure. In PR the cop MUST show you the radar and MUST be certified to use the radar equipment in oreder to give you a speeding ticket. "Trained to know speed by eye" thas BS. Get a lawyer and fight it til the end. Really if its this hard to get some justice the American Justice Sistem really SUCKS

i have have four tickets in about a year..(damn red RA) and not one of my court dates had an officer present. just say your not guilty and pray the cop doesnt show up. if he does, you often get a lower fine/action taken.
