Pulley Installed Now the Launching...

Hey guys,

So I've installed my CAI + Pulley over the week thanks to many of your responses.

Today I wanted to test the two mods and see how they went.

I noticed that on launch, I was already redlining and the car had barely moved a few metres (I actually didn't notice at first but when I looked at the rpm I was like "What? Already Redlining??..... I guess the pulleys working) and in second I wasn't quite pulling hard (I'm not over expecting anything from the two mods btw). But then third and fourth the car really starts to do its job..

I was wondering, with first and second gear, if you have these two mods, when do you recommend changing? I searched and some say around 5500rpm as this is when the power reaches its maxium point, after this, the power starts to drop. Because first and second I am wheel spinning like no tomorrow.

Any ideas?

it depends on the situation... When I drag race I go to almost redline before i change gears, that way the next gear is higher in its power band...

I shift at redline in 1st then usually around 6k in the other gears. You say you're spinning your tires through 2nd? I get a nice chirp when i change to second but that's it. Sounds like you need some better tires.

When you install the pulley, there shouldn't be any change between the relationship between RPM and the speed you're going...I'm assuming you're referring to the reduced weight on the crank, freeing it to spin up quicker

I agree with KevinO, ~redline in 1st, less for the other gears. When you shift, just be sure that when the clutch "catches" the engine as the RPM's drop during the shift, it's still above the MIVEC switchover point, but low enough so you don't spin in 2nd (practice makes perfect). Oh, and better rubber +1

The hardest thing with the pulley is that, if you dont catch good grip at launch and you are still kinda chirping tires, shift to 2nd in that situation and when you start chirping second and regain traction the engine drops RPM like crazy....to like 3000 - 3500 and getting back to the power without losing some ground is imposible.

I lost a couple of races due to this little mishap. But once you strat getting the hang of it, you will pretty much OWN ppl at start. BTW that way I beat a stock SRT-4 all the way to fifth. I pulled 2 cars on it thanks to the practice

KreepEvo, yeah I think its about catching a good grip at launch.

I raced my mates integra, and lost about half a car length in first and second gear (due to my launch), but third gear really pulled and I flew right past him. I think I'll need some practicing with the launch....

You guys launching at 2500rpm?

P.S Running Advan Yokohamas - stock..

Those Advans get good grip, you just have to adapt the cars level of power for the good launch

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

I'm probably use to the stock pulley and because the new pulley frees up so much power, I need to get use to the rev limiter revving much quicker, therefore changing the gear on time..

i just got done putting the pulley in and i'm not sure if i feel much of a difference. i was expecting a little more but then again there is a little rain out here so maybe i'll be able to feel it after it stops.

i just put mine on yesterday and not only have i noticed a little more low end torque (?) but i noticed my shift between gears is a LOT smoother. now idk if anyone has experienced this but it feels soo much smoother when i shift between each gear...

Most bolt on mods for any N/A car you're really not gonna feel a HUGE difference. That's why track times or dyno numbers are the best to help see the performance difference.

If you have your little test place for your car, a little trafficless straight, that you practiced on BEFORE installing the pulley, install it and test again, you will notice that you will redline fairly faster, the gears shift smoother, the car is way more friendly to downshift.

You dont actually get much tq if any, but acceleration is mostly noticeable in first and second gear, third and fourth is to walk all over RSXs

I feel more mid - top end torque especially on 3rd - 4th gear, first and second gear seems as though I've lost alow of low end torque? When I had stock pulley 2nd and 3rd was punching hard, now it feels a little different. idk.....maybe I'm use to it....

How often you guys change oil?

My last oil change was 1500kms. Im now on 5500kms....change?
