Angry HVAC Probs

So in Aug. my ac started blowing hot air. Figures since the hottest days of summer were on the way. But anyway, Charleston Mitsu checked it out and $1040 later i had the condenser replace and cold air again. well for a month, so back in to mitsu and sure enough it was the condenser again.....thats cool, it was covered under warranty so i really can't complain too much.....well 3 weeks ago, it goes out again. this will be the forth condenser in my 04 RA. i have 71,000 miles on it. Is anyone else having AC problems? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing the condensers to go bad? It's going back to mitsu monday.

thanks in advance,
slowryd

No, i had 67,000 miles on it when it went out the first time. but the replacements are under a 12month/12000 mile warranty.

If everything else works like the interior fan, condenser fan , etc. but blowing hot air check the gas temperature sensor in the compressor. Maybe is bad and sending an incorrect reading to the computer and switching the compresor off.

i had to pay the first time. HVAC isn't covered under the 10/100,000 warranty. Thats drive train only.

Ralliartpr, I'll check that and see if something is wrong with it.

My dealership just magically found a leak in my AC system that they say is going to cost me 270+ tax. Why they couldn't find this leak 3 condensers and $1040 ago is beyond me. I just want to know, If this has been the "problem" the whole time, why didn't they find it sooner. Oh wait, i know, It's because they could screw me on the condenser.

That was one of the reasons I opted for the bumper to bumper coverage on the RA... I've got Gap, service plan, the whole works... I paid more for the car, but I have absolutely no worries for 100K and im at 23k now... Payments are reasonable @347 month, all i've had to pay for was a set of tires (stock sucked anyhow) and I change my oil with full synthetic every 3750 miles...
I did the first 20K in a year, and now i never drive, so I should be good for at least the 10 year mark...

So small update.

After talking with the service manager, i pulled my car out of mitsu and will not be returning for service from them.

The Service manager is trying to tell me that my 1st condenser (the one on the car from the factory), had a hole the size of a quarter in it. Which i find funny for a few reasons, the service supervisor, whom verifies every leak, said that it was a pinhole leak. Big difference between a quarter and a pinhole. Also don't you think that they would have mentioned a giant friggin hole the first time around? If the condenser had a hole in it the size of a quarter would the system still hold ANYTHING? I could still see bubbles in the fluid running thru the sight glass before i took it into the shop the first time.

According to them, The next condenser they put in my car had a 4" crack in it, so they replaced it.

And finally they found the leak in the crimp of a hose on the high pressure side near the compressor.

another thing i have noticed was this was the first time i saw any hint of dye under the hood.

everytime the system was "fixed" it lasted for about 2 weeks. Then it took me about 2 weeks to get my work schedule worked out so i could take my car in for service.

They are now telling me this is a new problem and had nothing to due with the condensers they replaced. I think it was the problem the whole time.

It all sounds shady to me.

As soon as i can get it into somewhere, work has my schedule pretty screwed up. But i will have someone look at it as soon as i can. Mitsu purged the system and left it completely empty.

Hope everyone works out for you. It seems like you're the only one having this problem so far...

OK new update:

I just took it to another shop. They looked it over and found the schader valve on the Hi pressure side was loose. they tightened it and added freon, since mitsu completely evacuated the system. I gots cold air again! Woot. They did not find this mystery leak in the crimp on the High side.

so for $176.00, my system should be fixed. If not, it'll bleed down in 2 weeks just like the last times. I kinda hope it does, if so this is the same issue i have had since day 1, it'll be the crimp in the high side as the cause and i will demand my 1047.71 back.

on a side note, i have been toying around with the idea of getting some vinyl for my rear bumper. 3-4" tall letters reading: BOYCOTT CHARLESTON MITSUBISHI.

We will be contacting the dealerships owner soon to see if he will make everything right, or to at least inform him of pending litigation.
