Suspension and Radiator Fan Problems

Otter i hope this is in the right location.. i was going to put it in the suspension topic, but then i saw the fan.. and was gonna put that in the N/A topic.. JK, but yea do what you want with it boss.

Some of you might have heard that i've been having odd squeaking sounds coming from the rear suspension. It started about mid january and has managed to drive me insane up until today. I tried everything to fix it before today, silicone, lithium grease the bushings etc. Nothing worked, so i finally found a loaner car that i could borrow while i dropped my lancer off at the dealer. It turns out both Rear Control arms (they called it something fancy like an assist arm or something) were defective. Now i went through a front driverside control arm last year, straight up cracked a weld on it, now the two rear ones basically gave out on me over the past month. So if you hear squeaking, and it isn't coming from the bushings have them check out the control arms, they might be a concern. I dont' know what i'm doing to my car that's causing them to fail but w/e i'm doing its going through control arms fast.

As far as the fan goes, the radiator fan kept turning on/off randomly while driving and while at idle. It was in short bursts too. They replaced the controller, they said the controller was bad and they had the same problem on 2 other lancers in the last 4 months.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on these problems. They were all under warranty for me, not sure when my suspension warranty runs up but my powertrain is up at 36K and i'm at 33K now... so who knows.

Hope this helps
-Lee

You're behind the times, Bruce. Quite a few of us have gone through those damn rear control arms in past winters. Many Canadians, and a few US folk come to mind (Myself, Mysz, and Joe, off the top of my head)

I had the fans problem. At first they said it was normal, but i went again and they replaced the control module, or whatever they call it, and no more problem.

Unforunately you can't actually see the problem, you can only hear it, and usually only when it's cold and wet outside.

No. I really doubt your rear end sags (optical illusion due to uneven wheel gap), but if for some reason it did, that'd be caused by the springs.

i just hate lookin at my car with less gap in the back than the front, as long as nothings causing it then ill get over it. as for the squeaking, it only happens when i go over speed bumps and no i dont fly over them.

Car sits like that, my rear wheels tuck in REAL nice, but the front looks like a rally car.. haha

Man i missed out on so much stuff over the school year then, cause i coulda sworn i was on top of that problem... I wonder when my warranty is over, is the suspension part of the powertrain?

Nope. Control arms aren't terribly difficult to replace, though. If it's really bugging you it's something that can be done with the right tools.

Everything is normal for the dealership when it comes to do work under the warranty. If you were to pay for it out of your pocket then they will show u more problems with your car and basically try to rip you off.

If you have lowering springs then they're not going to cover any suspension issues. They'll blame it on the springs.
