I hear a loud clunk whenever I hit a small bump from my front drivers side. It will also clunk if I turn sharply to the right and upset the suspension. It started happening two days ago and then went away and now it is back. Any ideas what could be happening. Are my struts gone? The car has 22k. It is starting to worry me.. I will probably take it into the dealer some time this week.. Any one have any idea?

Jack that corner of the car up and support it on jackstands.
Take off the wheel.
Feel around at the bottom of your spring where it touches the spring perch on the strut for a small rock and remove any you find.
As long as you have it in the air and have the wheel off, make sure none of the large, important bolts are loose. (two holding the brake caliper on, the two connecting the strut to the knuckle, the tie rod where it meets the knuckle, etc.)
Put the wheel back on, snug the lug nuts down, remove the jackstands, drop the car back down, and torque the lug nuts by hand.
Now go for a drive and see if the noise is still there. If it is, take it to your dealer, it should be covered under the warranty.

+1 with Myz i get it all the time.
Its a rock stuck in your strut, inevitable. I gave up on trying to fix it.. I wonder if they make gloves that sit over to cover that up??

Thanks guys I am hoping that is it. I will take my car to get the tires balanced today and while it is jacked have the guys look for rocks and other problems. The sound comes and goes and a rock would make sense.

i also had the same problem mainly during the winter, i think due to the garvel and rocks they put down on the street, but sicne its gotten warmer and winter is gone i havent heard it.

I had the same problem. I had a tiny accident and dropped an axle and my front dirver side pretty much fell apart lol. Wheel fell off, axle poped out, everything...
Well i got a new control arm and axle and everything, everything seemed perfect, until my car started to make that same clicking sound your explaining... i went out and bought a sway bar end link and that fixed it.

how many miles do you have? i had the same thing happening to me when taking.. usualy a sharp right turn. and a few time i herd the squeeking noise backing down my driveway. it went aaway after a while. i have like 7000 miles on my car now
I have 22K and up until now the suspension has been quiet. I am still under warranty until next may but I am hoping it is just a rock.. The sound comes and goes and it is warm weather right now. One I get the car on a lift it will be easier to examine.
I took it to Les Schwabb. Had them take a look. I had to get my wheels balanced. They couldn't see anything. They said my suspension looked brand new. I did notice that the feed tube that goes into the intake box was a little loose. It would slide in and out of the hole very easily. When I pushed it back in it made a thud noise. It is possible when I hit a bump, it caused my engine to shift a little and slide the tube out a little and create a thud when it went back into place. After leaving the tire shop I did not hear the sound anymore. My car goes into the dealer on monday to get the AC knob repaired. If it makes any noises over the weekend I will have them check it out. I will probable have them check the suspension either way.

Very unlikely it was the Intake.
Stones and stuff getting caught is VERY COMMON in our Lancers due to strut design (or lack of) apparently. Ive had mitsu 'fix it' every service so far... and im at 22.500 kms .. and already thinking of upgrading to better shockers to try and fix the problem.

Today i also got the loud clunking noise. At first i just thought i ran over a rock, but it seems to be coming from my passenger side. With only 900km's on this car, im thinking that something isnt right at all....happens on small bumps, small sharper turns, or when i am somewhat heavy on the throttle switching gears. Makes me quite upset to think something has already gone wrong

i am hearing clunking sounds too. i just put aftermarket rotors in the rear and it seems like whenever i hit the brakes and go, it makes a sound. also makes the noise when i'm turning sometimes. i cant figure it out. anyone got any suggestions?

Chances are the problem you guys are having is rocks... I get them all the time, and until i upgrade my suspension i'll probably continue getting them... Only fix it to well.. get new shocks with a different design.
