Mobil 1 - 5W30

I was at the auto shop today and was looking for 5W30 Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic.

I could only find:

10W30
0W40
10W50

Does Mobil even make 5W30 because I went to two different stores with the above numbers.

When speaking with the guy, though Mobil 1 was an exceptional oil, a must for all car enthusiasts, he told me that it was American and their oil is different and is more better for their cars. He insisted on me getting Excellium oil, a European oil which runs better on Australian cars.

Anyone heard of it?

No of course not! You can use Synthetic for N/A as well.

There are heaps of advantages to Synthetic oil. Many of which I am lazy to go through so I searched it for you:

Technical Advantages:
- Measurably better low and high temperature viscosity performance
- Better chemical & shear stability
- Decreased evaporative loss
- Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown and oil sludge problems
- Reduced engine deposits in some applications (Turbos)
- Extended drain intervals with the environmental benefit of less waste oil created.

Benefits:
- Better viscosity index relates to lower cold start viscosity
- Better fuel economy due to more efficient engine operation
- Improved performance
- Decreased oil consumption
- Provide a heavier, more stable protective oil film for engine bearings and piston rings
- Potential for long drain capability due to oxidation resistance.

Heaps of RA members use Mobil 1.

Back to the topic though, does Mobil 1 have 5W30? Otter, help us out here!

royal purple is good, but mobil1 is ok too. replace it when it starts showing signs of age, you should be checking the oil at every gas fillup. I usually run my oil to around 6 or 7k, but won't be able to do that when I change to FI.

I was unaware there was any difference between our engines (aside from the CATs), and would think that if American oil was better for my engine it would be better for yours.

The recommended oil for our engines is 5w20, is it not? Are the temperatures down there so hot you need to go to a less viscous oil?

it says that in the manual, but there is a TSB stating that 5w20 is the correct weight for the 4g69.

multiple oil weights will work in any engine, oil is usually recommended by outside temperature range anyway. Due to the mivec operating on oil pressure and the tolerances in our engine mitsu had issued a TSB stating that 5w20 is the best oil weight to run in our engine. I searched but can't find it, call your dealership if you want to know for sure.

you can run whatever oil your conditions demand, I'm just telling you what mitsu says. That's also why I asked about the temperatures, if a heavier weight oil is needed due to higher outside temperatures.

i know for a fact that mobil 1 comes in 5w30. Last oil change i did i used mobil1. Hell,i can even take a picture of the bottle if you dont beleive me. we have cases of it at work. We also have 5w20 mobil 1. I dont know if im gonna stick with mobil one....its too expensive and i change my oil at 3000km, no exceptions. I just thought i would run it a few times, you know, give my engine a treat. lol. I think its really a waste of money unless you are running a really mean setup. As long as you get a good quality mineral oil i think you will be just as good. Just my opinion though.
