Cam swap, take it or leave it.

A lot of people make the mistake during the rebuild to re-use the cam bearings with a new cam. These bearings are as critical as the crankshaft main and rod bearings.
Worn cam bearings can throw off cam timing, and cause a loose fit of the timing chain which will change timing, and eventually cause the chain to fail, the cam to fail or both.

Discussion anyone?

it's kind of like changing the timing belt, why would you not replace everything possible while you are there? If you don't you are asking for trouble. It may never fail, but if it does you will have to pay all the labor for the whole job just to get to a $X.XX piece.

Belt or Chain, wouldnt you think the same concept applys wether or not it's a new belt? Wouldn't a new cam without new bearings would create play? Now I'm not talking about something you would feel, I'm talking about something you'd measure with plastigauge or the like... being out of spec. 'splain it

I do believe the cam bearings are not replaceable--they are part of the cam towers--in other words no bearings..If the towers wear--they would need to be align bored to fix the prob...This means the head comes off and goes to a good machine shop...Proper installation and torquing of the caps is critical to insure proper fit and no binding...shouldn't be a problem if the condition of your head and cam is good before you try the swap...

Thanks for clearing that up. I've never had a rice/jap head apart b4. Was curious!
