60K Timing belt change.....

I'm currently 1200 miles shy or reaching the time for my timing belt change. Does anyone happen to know the consequences of not getting it done at that time and how much have people paid to get this done? Is it a fixed rate or does it vary cities?

I am currently on 60k too , I will change my timing belt and tensioner once I replace the cylinder head.. It must be done , breaking a timing belt can mess up your engine

Consequences of not doing it: belt breaks, cam falls out of timing, pushing down valves as pistons go up. Valves bend/break, possible piston and cylinder wall damage. Get it done.

Each dealer will charge their own rate. Expect them to charge around $400 for parts and labor.

It wont necessarily happen at 60,000 miles it will last a lot more, but if you do it on time you prevent it taking you by surprise... G64s had this trouble, and this engine is based on that, so I wouldnt recomend skipping the replacement

I thought it was closer to 100k that the timing belt/pulleys was supposed to be changed?

I changed mine not too long ago. It was like 350-375 to get it done. It took them like 4 hours to do it. I had like 63k miles before I got it done. I think it's better to get it done. Like what otter said...if that happens you're screwed. It's better to just pay for the belt instead of a new engine.

it's 60k for most states, a few states have a 100k exclusion in the service explanations

Definitely do it at 60. I waited until around 63K for mine. Paid in the mid 300s for everything. I read a post a while back in the regular Lancer forum about a guy who didn't get it done, and he ended up paying thousands because of bent valves. Better just to do it at 60K and have that peace of mind.
