at least it didn't fall on you. I went to a party at a buddies house and his neighbor was crushed under his car that morning. dead.

The fear of instant death and/or horrible disfiguring injury and/or ruining my car makes me always use jackstands. I jack it up, put it on jackstands, then attempt to shake it off the stands before getting under there. I figure if I can't shake it off on purpose, it probably won't fall off by accident later. Jackstands are so inexpensive I don't understand the logic of not using them...

If you're jacking up a car, and either have to get underneath it, or remove a wheel, then you use jackstands. No exceptions, ever.

Next time at the very least, put the wheel underneeth the car near the jacking point after you remove it so in case of failure it will fall on the wheel instead of your toe...

EDIT: 3-ton jackstands from Harbor Freight are $18.99/ea. How much did all the damage to your vehicle and toes cost you?

I always jack the car and then place some wood planks/tyre to cover the loss of the fall should the car drop for any unknown, unforseen, unpredictable reason.

I ain't taking no risk, and neither should anyone else.

How long did it take you to get the car OFF your toes?

same thing I was wondering, can't really just pull your foot out unless you dont want any toes at all.

Glad you weren't to seriously hurt.

by myself i tried lifting the car and i was pulling hard, each pull created a fracture that i could feel and here. my mom heard my screams and came running out. mind you she's 5'2 and 120 if shes lucky. grabbed my car by the hole just above our lip and lifted it up. She-Ra type ****. it was about 4 minutes of being stuck. The damage to my foot is free(tricare anyone?), my car requires a new fender(me trying to pick it up) and a new cv joint. everything else is fine.

my biggest problem is im supposed to ship out to parris island on the 27th of august....

Well duh. Any reasonably intelligent person knows that.

Sounds like we almost had a Darwin moment here. Have a couple more of these for the toe pain:

I was on jackstands once.. damned things sank into the pavement... Along with the Jack. Stupid me opted to work on my car in the middle of an abandoned parking lot... It took another Jack and a sledge hammer to get the parts out of the pavement. (I didn't see them sink because I was on the other side of the car assembling a part that was driving me crazy. Mind you this was with my Taurus SHO though.

Good luck with the car, and hope you heal up fast. Sucks that you're shipping out so soon. I stick with Jackstands with plywood under it to displace the force of the stands, and on top of that I use 2 jacks.. haha
