some random DIY help

so i think i have read up on my stuff i am semi noobish when it comes to forums and cars so bear with me please, for the most part these are question i couldnt get resolved but i will post sepratley if needed. i just recently changed my brakes and now i believe i can rebuild motors... well not quite yet but i need some pointers..

04 RA M/T 66k Stock

Is there a PCV filter and ne advice on PCV replacement ?

Do i really need to do coolant flush?

any M/T fluid recommendations by experience ( gonna flush )
ne one try redline mt 90 in RA might be too thck over protection for our power output perhaps? bg II, penzoil syncromax or mesh ??

how much M/T fluid is needed????

how hard is the Valve Lash adjustment?

how hard is a timing belt tensioner waterpump change?

any fuel or spark services needed?

i can change my cars oil and it took me like 2.5 hrs to change rear brakes i m not scared to learn but rather stay away from sticky situations so any warning would be nice id like to avoid major expenses...

any thing else i should do ? fuel filtere ?

-Thanks

Every couple years, especially in extreme climate areas, either very hot or very cold. I will be flushing/refilling mine in a couple months or so, just in time for winter.

BG II, Synchromesh, or Synchromax are all good choices. Not sure about MT90. Personally, I've run GM Synchromesh in mine for the last 59k, and am still very happy with it.

Buy three quarts of whichever fluid you end up choosing. You'll use 2.3 quarts to fill your tranny up.

how hard is the Valve Lash adjustment?
I think it's pretty easy, but then again, I wrote the how-to on it. Some people have tried it and ended up taking the car in to have it done afterwards.

how hard is a timing belt tensioner waterpump change?
Again, I think this is fairly easy, but I've changed timing belts on DSMs for years. I'll be doing my own timing belt and water pump change next time it rolls around. This is NOT recommended for beginners, due to our interference engines. Mistakes with valve timing are expensive.

any fuel or spark services needed?
Not until 100k, which is the spark plug change interval.

Please do not attempt to change your own timing belt until you are more comfortable with working on your car. If you have a more experienced mechanic friend that could watch/help, valve lash adjustment shouldn't be a problem. Spark plugs, fluid changes, and brake pads are no-brainers. The rear brakes on these are more difficult than the front because of the drum-in-disc parking brake.

There is no easily-replaceable fuel filter on these cars. It's part of the fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank.

On this car, you'll probably never need to replace the PCV as long as the car is running properly. You can pull it off and check it every 60k miles or so, and just make sure the valve moves freely (rattles when you shake it.) I like to blow some carb/TB cleaner through it while it's off the car.
